T120 '19. Stopped for petrol, on trying to start up all I got was "click" tried again "click" then nothing. All the ignition lights came on but then nothing, not even a "click". Tried with bike on side stand and off side stand, in gear and out of gear. Getting desperate by now. Then after about 20 mins I try again and it starts first time as usual. A couple days later after 4 or 5 ok starts it goes "click" again ,the next attempt it starts. What is going wrong ? It's not the charge in the battery. Have had the bike from new it's done 5400 miles.Thanks .
yes still in warranty but I would rather contact dealer with some idea what the problem is. I will get a better response if I can point them in the right direction.
Sorry, should have said Ive checked terminals on battery ,starter etc and sprayed TT in switches on side stand switch and ignition system .If it can be tightened or sprayed Ive done it.
Brixton Steve Good advice here it's like the people say time for the dealer. Go to someone with a good reputation and I am sure they have come across it before. Do you keep your battery on the tickle charge and do you have an alarm fitted. Joe.
Intermittent electrical faults are the most infuriating because of their sheer unpredictability and knack of arising at the moment of maximum inconvenience. If you eliminate any internal battery issues - any half decent local shop can load test it to see what amps it throws out v. What it’s supposed to be - Then you have a poor connection or a lazy component such as a $3 relay or solenoid. You might just eliminate any starter motor gremlins by supplying 12v direct from the battery to the +ve post on the starter. Often as not a mobile auto electrician might just be worth a punt. He/she will very quickly prove what does and doesn’t play as intended.
If it does it again put it in gear and rock the bike forwards and backwards, this may clear it or tap the starter/solenoid. As said by others, dealer.
Just to be clear does the click manifest itself after the bike has been running for a while and is hot ? Does it then appear as if the battery is flat ?Thereafter does it start after the bike has been allowed to cool down ? If so I have a similar fault with my Tiger sport. It only happens when bike is hot after at least 20/30 mins riding. My bike is out of warranty but if you google the symptoms you will find it’s a very common fault.I will take mine to the local dealers in springtime and get them to check it at service time.If I were you I would take it to the dealers for warranty checks !
It’s the thick as shite CANbus System again throwing the dummy out as usual. Battery not up to scratch in its opinion but in the real world it’ll be a good battery still. Replace yet another good battery is the answer
On the assumption the battery is good and doing what it should, I suspect the click you are hearing is the starter relay. Could be a dodgy internal connection and the way to prove it is or isn't this is as Callumity says.
Mates Suzuki had exactly the same fault, turned out to be a knackered reg/rec. Trouble is on most modern bikes you have no idea if the charging system is working or not. I have fitted a volt meter to my speedie ,at least l will get some advance warning. I will try to post some pictures later.
