All the major magazines and bike websites have picked up on it and not one of them is suggesting its fake news..

No more fun news about the 1160?
Have been looking on the web but it seems like the spyshot was about it so far.

Sadly so it seems. Maybe they are trying to shift a few more 1050 bikes before any more announcments!

When I first saw the 1160 reports last year, where a source was given it was Bennetts. Where there was no source, the details all matched, so prob just cut/paste reporting rather than fake news.
Ben Purvis at Bennetts doesn't give a source either.

    https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesoci...2019/august/triumph-speed-triple-1160-planned

I love the idea of a really torquey not-too-heavy (looking at you Rocket3) Speed triple, don't like all the waiting.

Well, guess i should update this thread and let everyone know that I was totally wrong about the spy shots being fake.

The 2021 S1000R was revealed Nov 19 and it's definitely the same bike that was in the spy shots. So I'm guessing it's likely that the Speed is real too and that both bikes for some reason were tested at the same time by the same person. Could it potentially be for Euro 5 approval or something?

Unless the S1KR pictures were the only real ones and the Speed pics were faked based on the S1KR pics or something. But that doesn't really make any sense so I'm leaning more towards both being real. But i was completely wrong last time so who knows.

Also not sure why they haven't announced the new Speed yet if it's indeed done.

Here's a short vid from the BMW launch at least:

I can confirm the 1160 is real. I've seen it but unfortunately can't post photos due to a privacy agreement. But definitely real

Cool. Do you have any idea when Triumph might share it with the rest of us?

And does it really have an upside-down shock mounted directly to the swinging arm? Seems like a bit of a backwards move to me. I mean KTM finally did away with having the shock directly mounted this year and added a linkage to the SDR and everything. Thought I'd at least ask and hey maybe it'll start some discussion if nothing else which is always fun. Way too little speculation going on in this thread for my taste. Not that I've really been helping, but I mostly enjoy reading what others have to say more..

    Refering to this picture btw:

I’d read something about the rear shock being directly connected is so there is now room for the cat to go to pass the new regs?
Probably mcn but I don’t want to risk getting ill by reading mcn again....

Yeah, that's most likely why they did it. But the Ducati Streefighter V4 managed even with an underslung exhaust. And while the S1000 range does have a standard muffler it also has a pretty big collector box under the bike and BMW managed to avoid mounting directly to the swingarm too. So I feel like Triumph could have solved it if they wanted to. But maybe that involved re-engineering the bike more than they wanted to and went with the second best option.

I could say that "I confirm the 1360" is real, but secret.
As per link in chain above, Ben said that the bike was coming soon, in August 2019.

Any verifiable source for "definitely real" ?

I hope it is coming, but when ?
May as well get an S1000R in the meantime !

BTW - are the roads any good in the South Sandwich Islands ?

There ARE no roads as you must know.

Grytviken on South Georgia boasts a rough gravel banana about 200m long. The nearest tarmac is probably Port Stanley about 475 miles WNW across the Southern Ocean.

D’ya think he might be ‘avin’ us on?

Shame about the redesign of the front headlights on the S1000R, I kinda got used to the dual asymmetrical headlights and think it made the bikke stand out.

The 2021 version looks like any old japsbike and won't stand out in the crowd.
I hope Triumph brings out the new 1160, would be nice to have a few more HP and something that can compete with the Tuono.

And if Triumph keep the same seating position as of now, or even making it a bit more sitting "in" the bike instead of "on top" of it, like with the Tuono, I'd gladly buy one.

Would be nice if they managed to get their gearbox a bit tighter too, my old Street triple was great, the old 2013 speed triple too but the 2016 feels a bit like an old Volvo. Long-throw compared to the older ones.

I think the speed triple needs a complete redesign. Brand new engine and gearbox at the very least. Its too old now, the earlier models are the best ones IMO, from 2016 on they got worse. Years behind the competition! I dont see anything wrong with the rear shock being connected straight to the swinging arm. Having owned a Thruxton R and a superduke there are no issues. Look how the Pattons out perform everything in road racing. Plus the KTM is easily the most comfortable super-naked. It squats and shakes its arse a bit if you really give it the beans out of a corner but its planted and I personally love the sensation. Probably more to do with set up than the lack of linkage anyway

Wouldn't go as far as to say it needs a complete redesign. But at the same time maybe its only so much you can do with the current design and parts.
From a driving perspective I have to say the upgrade from 2013 to 2016 S was quite a big improvement.
It feels lighter (even if it isn't) and the improvements with QS, heated grips, a few more HP and so on made it more fun.
Not sure what they did to the gearbox tho, but it seems like the 2018 and onwards is better than the 2016-2017 versions (from reading forums).

But maybe they have reached the limit on what they can do with the current design.

Oh, and it would be nice if they brought back the lowboy arrow option on a 1160 bike, doubt it will happen due to EU regulations....but still. Love the sound extra HP it gives.

A Speed Triple should always have high level twin silencers in my book, but agree that the current 1050 rides like a far more nimble bike, very close to the 765 Street Triple, but just comfier and with more umph :D
