A swift demise should be the fate for anyone commiting an attack. However the most likely response will be "Islamaphobia" trending on social media

Let's hope that the security service can get on top of any threats and close them down....

No point wounding the barstewards you only have to look after them and nurse them back to health before a long winded trial,
like the one in France wounded, they should have emptied their magazines into the git, "Is he dead" No hang on Rat tat tat, is he dead now "I think so" lets make sure Rat tat tat, He is now.

People reared on US tv shows have completely unrealistic ideas about pistols, their accuracy (even in expert hands) and the chances of an incapacitating hit if you think someone has a concealed RC detonator.

Justice is not killing people, but allowing a trial, even for victim relatives.
I'm happy he was not killed for 2 reasons, 1) find more people associated to the terrorism 2) for a higher notion of justice

The UK threat level is still low.
I'll get agitated when they raise it to the ' quite miffed' level.

From what I understand it's the consequence of what's being going on in Europe, rather than any specific threat to the UK itself. Let's hope so, anyway.

My brother was ‘attached’ to 15 int at the time (anyone who knows what really happened knows what that means, and anyone who doesn’t, neither knows nor matters!)

I used to target shoot many years ago with both pistols and rifles, obviously the other end of the scale from offesive/defensive shooting in a live combat scenario. The weapons (pistols) themselves are capable of extraordinary accuracy when shooting static targets on a range with consistent loads and the TIME to draw down and take aim, time being the one thing you almost certainly will not have in a fire fight. Trained snipers with state of the art weaponry take accuracy to another level but, as you say, the chance of a target carrying a concealed booby trapped explosive device make take down far riskier and complicated.

Years ago I was in the TA not sure what that equates to in the US sorry. Anyway we had a few days shooting an SLR on a range good fun except for when I thought I'd try and shoot left handed (seemed like a good idea at the time) unfortunately I didn't take into account the shell exiting the gun on the right fortunately it glanced off my cheek bone 40mm higher and I'd have probably lost my eye. Not that it's relevant to the thread or anything it just made me think of it.

Must have had a defective extractor. The SLR could be fired from either shoulder and ejected slightly forwards. SA80 RH only! (I competed at Bisley and other competitions as a relative youngster with pistol, SMG, SLR and LMG and trained on the GPMG at Sandhurst. Have fired plenty more besides!)

When I was in Canada I was on exercise with the CAF and I was issued with what looked like an SLR but if you held the trigger it would empty the magazine in one constant burst
If I remember rightly it was called an FN:)

Basically the same weapon. The original design was the Belgian Fabrique Nationale Fusil Automatique Legere. The FN FAL.... adopted widely around NATO.

The UK made a single shot version I.e. semi automatic with no fully automatic facility to conserve ammunition and encourage fire discipline. Needless to say in the Falklands plenty of lads picked up Argentinian FALs ......

And 7.62mm NATO was derived from .308 Winchester hunting ammunition just as 5,56mm NATO owes its parentage to .223 Remington. In both cases the bullets length/weight, load and rifling differ but as a cartridge they are dimensionally pretty much identical.
