    Hey Guys,

First time posting here. My name is Dan and i'm riding a 2004 bonneville. I'll have to post pictures soon.

Bur i have an issue. My bike died as i was pulling into a gas station. My gas light doesn't work and i was definitely low, so i believe i ran out. Anyway, i filled up and it started right up, but now it stutters/ misfires at about a quarter throttle, regardless of gear, and will not accelerate if i pull the throttle past this point.

Any ideas on what it could be? My initial thought was a blocked jet, so i got some fuel treatment that i'm throwing in tonight.

A 2004 Bonneville with a fuel light? The carbed bikes just have a tap.....

It certainly sounds like dirt in the system but it could be at the gauze in the tank at the tap or the gauze filter inside the hose just North of the T piece that feeds each carb. Rust particles may have washed through as you got low. You can also open the drain screw on each float bowl (fuel off!) to see what appears. It’s not impossible that condensation I.e. water is now at the lowest point in the system......the float bowls.

I would vote for clogged pilot jets as well as it's in the tickover to quarter throttle region that they do their job.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll try draining the float bowls and see if this fuel system cleaner can clear the jets up. I'll report back with results. Until then, here's a pic of the ride! Have some new Gasser Customs black ceramic slip-ons getting here on monday too!

Well, with the new exhaust, you may become a carburetor tuner. If they are loud and/or free flowing, expect to jet up. Swell ride with tasteful accessories.

Yeah i'm wondering how that's going to go. I believe the current slip-ons are Dunstalls (last owner installed), which are pretty loud and what i would describe as "Brappy". Love the sound but not so much the size or style. I'll definitely post pictures after the install and whether it sounds like a machine gun on decel or not.

It’s funny you should post this. I recently went to replace my air filter for the first time and upgrade to a K&N. After watching a video on it, I was really confused when I didn’t see a snorkel! Seems the previous owner had the insight to get something similar to this.

And thank you all for the warm welcome!

In which case the chances are you have larger main jets. It makes next to no difference to fuel consumption because it runs more strongly with a smidgen less throttle.

Sure looks to be fuel related, but the early Twins do have issues with igniters and coils so if not carb related look at those and if its already had some tuning additions may benefit from a TTP igniter remap?

I was finally able to dig in to the bike. Took the carbs out and there was a ton of sediment, and even a tiny leaf in the float bowls. One main jet had something in it too. Cleaned them, threw them in and it fixed the main issue.

Also installed the gasser customs slip ons. I'll include a picture. They sound wicked, but as expected, i'm getting some backfiring. It isnt too bad, but i also noticed my throttle response below 25% throttle is a little sluggish now. I didn't clean the pilot jets aside from spraying carb cleaner through them. I'm wondering if they need to go up in size or if maybe i need to just play with my throttle rigging. Anyway, heres an updated pic! Next up is to black out the badges and headlight dome, then try to bob the front fender.

The air screws should be in the range of 2.5-3.0 turns out from fully home. Any more than that and you might well need a size larger pilot jets. Adjust in .25 increments evenly on both sides to minimise but probably not entirely cure popping on the over run.

Good to know cleanliness is still next to Godliness!
