Yeah, sound the nuts, anyone know if it definitely needs remap or is it ok to run as is?

Run as is, ain't gonna do any harm, just might not run at absolute best. Then take to a dealer and ask for Hi-flow / TOR map and see if it is any better / worse. Running mine on TOR's without map, goes fine, no problems. If I find time will go get TOR map, when off work at Easter.

Someone will be along soon to explain buying a lead and downloading a map, but the're braver than me o_O

Check the colour of the plugs to see if it running lean.

Rethe popping on over-run, you'll notice it a lot more with open pipes. If you don't like it, you'll need to remove the AI system.

As a temporary measure why not block the AI supply pipe at the airbox. You'll need a marble or similar to block the pipe.

I have the long TORs and it was remapped when fitted so they said. No reason to disbelieve them, I get the popping and bangs if I decelerate quick, if I come in smooth then hardly at all. I also get popping on accel on occasions.
Love it all, add in the louder overall sound, best thing I did.
It also got rid of an annoying stall I would get sometimes when going down a hill with little throttle or pulling away at a junction. Would make me look like a noob not knowing how to use a clutch, lol. A slightly higher idle helped but the TORs seemed to have cured that.

P.s pipes look good and for £100 agree, a no brainer, must have lost some weight on the bike as well fitting those.

Thanks for the feedback. Did you buy the lowbrow customs pipes from the USA? Did you not have to pay any tax / import charges?……….. I'm tempted to buy these too given your positive comments.

I bought mine from http://www.squaredeals-ltd.co.uk/america--speedmaster-18-c.asp, based near Leeds I think.

Obviously a lot louder than standard pipes but I feel it suits the bike in looks and has the sound you'd expect from that style of machine, with the added bonus of being audible to other road users.
    Good luck and safe riding.

I've used YouTube to search out Speedmasters / Americas fitted with cocktail shaker exhaust. Got to say that I totally agree with you. They make the bikes sound like they should, rather than the whisper quiet sound of stock pipes.

    Thanks agin for the review!

If you have it remapped the popping will go for awhile then come back. Had mine done, remap upto date on my 2012 model but now the popping is back although not as much, be careful you pay for the popping to go but it will return. The alternative is to take out the air box, plug the holes on the engine etc, etc, there is a video on you tube where the guy removes the air box on a 865 engine but then you have to get K & N filters etc, more money.

Just to clarify, the video above is Delboy removing the Secondary Air Injection System, rather than the air box.
I've done this same procedure on my '05 carbed Speedmaster

Sorry Ming but got to take issue with you on this.

There are only two reasons why you get popping on over-run:

    1. Leaks in the exhaust system; or

    2. The AI in operation.

With regard to the AI system removal it is perfectly possible to remove this system without removing the airbox or replacing the air filter for a K and N or similar replacement.

In terms of cost, DIY removal will cost you: 2 x Nissan Micra sump plugs - about £4 - and 1 x plastic plug for the airbox - about £1 - I used a wine bottle cork.

You do not NEED Tune ECU to complete this, so you don't need an OBD cable. It can be done with perfectly satisfactory results without modifying the ECU map.

OK, then why when I took it to Triumph they said the popping is due to the excess of unburnt fuel and having short open pipes.

Because they don't like you fiddling with them! Removing the AI will help get rid of the popping, try sticking a marble up the tube from the airbox and see

Biglad mentioned the marble trick earlier and now yourself, can i ask if this is just a temporary measure to assess the difference it makes regards the popping, also if or can it be left there long term ??
