Proper Fresh Meat

Hi guys,

Well I finally passed my bike test yesterday after wanting a bike since the first time I saw a blue and white bandit 1200 with day glow orange wheels (yes I'm that wierdo )

I've been looking for bikes over the last few months and I keep coming back to the daytona 650 . I just wondered what I should be looking out for and anything to stay clear of.

Start small, it’s where the real fun is. Your skills will send you you down one way or another, If either you can fix things then It’s private sellers, if your not capable to repair then it’s the very expensive dealer route. Make sure you buy with comfort first being feet down as you will drop the thing at some point sooner. That just some info for now

nothing wrong with a bandit 650 to start with some have ABS, could be useful as you learn!!

650 was top end of price range, 600 is still an option.

I wasn't really interested in supersports until I say the daytona and now I can't ignore it

 

The post mentioned a daytona @Wishbone not a bandit slightly different bikes to ride

 

Very fast bike and seem to hold good money

 

I did mention bandits at the very top as it was my first bike love followed by mates dad's hayabusa, so technically he is correct starting arguments

 

Fast for a 650 or just fast in general?

 

What bike did you pass on? Get one a bit bigger for a few months (esp if you're buying now, shit roads for six months)
Buy with brain rather than heart if poss (tricky one that), something you can sell on without loss in spring and you'll have a far better idea of the bike you *want*.
Because it won't be acedemic anymore, you'll know more what you want from a bike (more power will be a given )
Then you can get a next step bike better informed.

 

I passed on a er6n 650 which was nice to ride but a little small body wise.

That's some good info, I'm trying to be as sensible as possible, it's tough when it's yiur first bike but I am thinking around 600cc so that there's always somewhere to go if I get bored and want a bigger bike.

Only joking with the starting arguments comment as it sounds like you know each other already

 

Suzuki SV650 excellent first bike.

 

That was my friends first bike but didn't like the fairing, but the Naked one does look quite nice.

I'm kinda shocked you guys are suggesting none triumph bikes but I'm glad, means you want me to get the right bike not just the brand.

I had the naked version, as a v twin engine has enough grunt low/mid range and is a good bike to learn your craft on. Also you can pick them up cheap enough and bullet proof reliable engines.
