Hi all, I am going though a starting problem. My Street Triple cranks like crazy but doesn't start. Not a hint of combustion at all. Changed and charged a new battery but no luck. It has been sitting for a few years with occasional running every few months but that's all. It started and ran about two months ago no problem. I drained the gas tank and refilled with new gas the other day. Could it be old gas in the system that is causing it not to start? Or a sensor that went bad just sitting in the garage? Any advice well appreciated! Steve
It's not unusual on these for the crank position sensor to fail and give these exact symptoms. You need to start looking for the obvious :- is fuel getting to the cylinders? is there a spark at the plugs? and then work from there. Wish you luck.
Thanks for the help! That's the first thing I wanted to check but it seems to me to check for spark and fuel I have to remove the tank and airbox and quite a bit under that - correct? Is there another way to check that doesn't require taking the bike apart? How to I check the crank position sensor? Is it possible to use an OBD meter and look for fault codes for any of this? Does a dealer start by just taking it all apart like I would or do they have shortcuts to diagnose these things? I've worked on my car engines back in the 70's - 80's (for fun), but since then and the advent of computer ignitions and fuel injection I've not bothered. I'm confident doing it all but just want to see how much I really need to do before figuring out what's wrong. Thanks for the advice! Sorry for all the requests but really need as much advice as I can get at this point. Steve
OK, pulled off the top. It's getting fuel but no spark that I can see. CPS checks out fine at 200ohms. Anyone have any idea what to check next? I have an OBD reader but don't have an android device to use the software for it. Anyone have any alternatives they can think of? Thanks for any help!
