I took the rear passenger foot pegs off before I even took the bike home when I bought it, David! I’ve done the same with every bike I’ve ever bought that came with passenger pegs. Tidies up the bike...and assures that no one will want a ride.
I am picking up exactly same bike, probably this Wednesday I see you ordered quickshifter. Not scared by all the gearbox problem stories? What about your warranty, did you just take 2 year standard or extended to 4 years? Congrats!
Did you weigh them, Sandi? If you did not, would you mind doing this? I really want to know what they weigh. I usually take rear pegs off on my sportsbikes, also for weight loss, and replace battery with Li-Ion (which normally gives 2kg lower mass). With Speed Triple, the rear pegs protect the Arrow cans, so there is a decision to make, whether better looks + lower mass or better protection.
I've had a quickshifter on every bike I've had for years with no problems . Its just got 2 years warranty but if I have it serviced at the dealers it's a life time warranty on engine and gearbox. Enjoy your new bike mate I love this bike big change from a 2017 zx10r
OK, so you did not read the thread about gearbox problems? I did, but I ordered qs anyway. It is nowhere near as good as the unit on my L7 GSXR1000, but it is OK for me. I have never ridden a single Kawa, cannot comment, but I can tell you that after riding my GSXR1000R and Speed Triple RS back to back my appreciation for my Suzuki grew even stronger. I am definitely keeping my Gixxer Thou. So, you have no weight for the rear foot peg? You did not weigh them to see how much weight you took off your bike? ;-)
Not seen anything about gearbox but at the end of the day it's under warranty I've got a zzr1400 and r1 track bike so it was nice to get something a bit different o think it would be good on track as long as there are no long straights I'd didn't weigh the pegs I only took them off as I wont use them

Only if you find them, but it is no big deal. As far as Li-Ion batteries are concerned, I replaced standard batteries with Li-Ion ones on all my bikes, current and past. There are many advantages with Li-Ion batteries: 1. At least 2kg weight reduction (=can eat a bit more cake ) 2. Hold charge much better/longer than standard (quality) batteries 3. Recharge very fast They work fine in 0C ambient temp as well, warm them up on start by turning the ignition key and letting the lights on for 10 seconds before starting the engine. Where I am at we only have Shido Li-Ion batteries. The price premium of Li-Ion over quality standard battery (normally Yuasa) is acceptable to me. In fact, sometimes I found Li-Ion batteries at lower price than standard ones...this does not apply to Speed RS though, I already checked, but it will not be long before I put Li-Ion battery in that bike.
Thanks for the info! I've fleetingly entertained the idea of a Li-ion battery in the past but never looked into it in any detail. One of the variables we here in AZ must take into account is always the heat. Do you know how a Li-ion battery would do in ambient temps as high as 115ºF??
115F is 46C. Who rides in such temperature? Doesn't asphalt become liquid or something? You can probably cook on the tires after a ride in such heat. In 37C ambient there is no problem with a Li-Ion battery.

well, that's another matter. These KTMs, they are growing on me. Looked at one of these today, but in orange. Has to be in orange. Shame the wheels are not orange. Looks cool, even the Euro5 intestines for the exhaust collector. Must be bonkers to ride. Tried 890R today, competitor to Street RS. Well, Street feels like a motorbike. 890R has more advanced electronics, IMU, Stylema calipers like on the meanest baddest Ducati Panigale, 116 rwhp, 99nm torque, 185kg wet weight...but it feels like a toy. I mean, it is all these great things but it looks and feels like a goddamn toy. Exciting ride as well, very nice. A bit too silent with the stock pipe, Street makes far better noises from its stock pipe.
I like the colours too. Mine is 2018/19 and is Matt black with red accents. I’m not a fan of the current Matt black version with the yellow / green. This white one looks much nicer in my opinion.
