Maybe you are in the habit of annoying people around you by accumulating boxes and jars of odd fasteners, bent bits of metal and 'useful stuff' that may be seen by the unenlightened as 'junk'
I've no idea where or how long ago these were stuffed in a corner of the shed but lo, quick release seat screws. I feel vindicated.

Now to find a use for the rest of the ton of 'useful stuff'

I'm exactly the same, and have realised I prob save to much of it.

As long as you don't end up being a a possible candidate for "Hoarders" its good to save bits and bobs. :)

I usually find a use when I’ve saved them for years, then just discarded them!

Guilty [me]… Spent my life fixing things, so I have quite.the collection. Lately I have been trying to sort out mostly the threaded hardware. I have a lot of other stuff around as well. I worked as a maintenance engineer for 24 years. Before that I worked in auto repair, machine shops, construction,.etc. I try to stay organised, but I am always finding useful.things I forgot I had. Even tools. :) ...JD.

As my memory declines, I get more frustrated on "knowing" I have a bit or bob that would work for my present crisis, but cannot locate it.

    Now where's my glasses...

I hoard loads of stuff and always say:'it will come in handy if l never use it"
Or if you haven't used it, you simply have not had it long enough!

Yeah the same always keep crap in the hope it will be useful one day. The problem is when I do need said crap I can never find it so have to buy it anyway. So in the end there was no point hanging on to it. Although to be fair I have the same problem with tools I often can't find a tool even though I know I have it somewhere can't be arsed to waste anymore time looking so buy a new one.

That's quite sensible (by my terms ) as imperial spanners can give handy intermediate sizes to the metric range, you rarely need an 11mm spanner but you'll find a 7/16" will do the job.

    Always keep spanners, 7/16", 1/2", 9/16", 11/16", 3/4, & 15/16 are very close to 11, 13, 14, 17, 19, & 24 anyway you never know you may fancy buying an Harley :D

I'm the same way, I just can't throw away a fastener, and sometimes actually find a use for one of them.

Very sensible as one day you may own an old brit bike or car , most of the frame threads on my old BSA are cycle thread (26tpi) and for these you need a set of whit/bsf spanners.

I've got this stuff up to about 1 1/4". 1/4" drive. 3/8" drive. 1/2" drive. Been turning wrenches on SOMETHING since I was a teenager. I plan to leave it for my kids to sort out when I'm gone. Kind or revenge for them being so rude and obnoxious as adults. Maybe they will realize I was the only.thing that kept all four of them fed, clothed, and housed. But I doubt it. :/ ...J.D.

And you could always borrow a screw driver from dilli, if need be.

Funnily enough I've recently worked out that's what I need for the seat mounts too! None in my 'may come in handy sometime' boxes though :(
