Hi My Name is James Hargreaves but everyone calls me Jim I’m 47 from a place called Holton-le-Clay near Grimsby Lincolnshire Hope you lads on here can help me Out a bit about me From when I was born I was always around bikes my dad used to race from early seventies to early eighties So I would be searching around the pits at a lot of the tracks around the uk so classic bikes have always been a love of mine so finally I have got some spare cash and I thought right get a bike I have just purchased a barnfind T140v 1977 from the USA, it going to be my first restoration so I have loads of questions that I would like enthusiasts to help me with. First of all I need a manual I’ve been looking on the web but it there seems to be quite a few so can anybody tell which is the most comprehensive. I’m pretty mechanically minded but I’ve notstripped down an engine before some I needsomething that goes into detail Also has anyone got any tips for a novice so Idon’t make school boy errors right from the off, I want to do a nut and bolt refurbishment so I’mgoing for the full strip down. Enjoy the challenge. Advice? If you have an estimate of the costs involved, double it and add a grand. I’m sure you’ll get a lot of satisfaction from it when it eventually comes together. Allow an extra 12 months as well.

I’m guessing it all depends on what works been done. For me started a freshly rebuilt engine is a bit of a heart in mouth moment no matter how careful you’ve been. The first few rides will usually show up a few issues that need addressing hopefully nothing major. But once you are happy with it and you can relax it’s a great feeling of achievement. Then you start looking for the next “project”.

Jim Hargreaves. Welcome to the family. Yes do your build on the projects and let us all take the journey with you. Biggest thing about a full restoration is the fear of starting. Manuals i do like the Clymer. And membership is the way to go you get your Halfords card and my card has paid for itself many times over. Or maybe that's just like my better half tells me i just like spending. Yes plenty of pictures and we will help you along. And believe me there are some clever dudes on here. Regards Joe.
