Had a ride over to the local airfield to look at this beauty. Her name is Sentimental Journey, one of five surviving B-17s that can still fly. There was an opportunity to go for a flight, but to the tune of $500. That’s too many bike parts!

After that I spent the rest of the afternoon cruising country lanes. The nearby mountains were covered in clouds, so being stubborn I headed that way. I spent about half an hour getting rained on while navigating the twisties. Made it home with a big grin and a dirty bike.

This weekend it is at Tri Cities Airport in eastern Tennessee but it’s home field is the Commemorative Air Force Base in Arizona.

This video is the B-17 starting up and getting ready for takeoff. It’s funny that the frames per minute filmed make the props look like they are barely moving. I’ve not attempted to upload a video yet so I hope it works!

Grabbed a bite at one of the local towns and spent some time relaxing at the lake. Enjoying the weather while it's still warm in Michigan. Screenshot_20200912-201552__01.jpg

I used to use metal ammo boxes back in my shooting days, mostly 303 with a couple of larger ones. Very well made and vary cheap back then. I paid £2 each for the 303 boxes. Same with ex mod jerry cans at £3 each!!
There was a place in Sheffield that was piled high with all that stuff, now long gone.

I hear that Norton was "saved" by TVS, @Sandi T, so still a chance to own one, such as they are.

I was able to sneak out, under positively threatening skies, to a small tavern sponsored car / bike show. Just a few miles away. Bikes consisted of two Ural sidecar rigs (with driven sidecar wheels) one Indian, and the prerequisite Hogs. I parked Virginia in the middle of that lot. Decent cars, as you can see, including a USMC Hummer, and a 1 Ton 1952 Army truck. Chatted with the good guys and made a splendid exit with Virginia sounding nicely. A much needed boost to the soul.

I was down in deepest, darkest Hampshire for the nifty fifty endurance race this weekend.....see link to thread. Main reason for this post is I saw briefly what I think was a Nightstorm, or possibly a Storm (had the leather panniers on) at the roundabout in Collingbourne heading for Tidworth at about 3:30pm on Saturday. Was it anyone on here?

Took a few days off midweek to take advantage of empty roads on the west coast of Ireland. Day 1 great, a little light rain but nothing to worry about, Day 2 my boots were squelching as I walked, the rain never let up, so much for waterproof boots! Day 3 and 4 back to good weather.

I don't think I will ever get to experience the Ring of Kerry like that again. Sun shining but no tourists, very little traffic, many places closed down. It was fantastic to drive but more than a little sad to see how this virus has crushed the small local economies. About 1650KM in all and at a pretty slow pace on the small coastal roads but the Tiger 1200 is a very nimble beast when it wants to be.

I know what you mean about the weather in Ireland lol. The Ring of Kerry has to be a must for any bikers, when I did it the rain was bouncing. Still loads of fun, just need to watch out for the buses
