I received three PM's tonight from a new member called Thomas01 in Wisconsin. Seem a bit odd. They are in response to posts I had put up for things I was looking for - 955i RS seat, Bonnie mirror and 955i RS seat cowl. Each one was the same apart for the part mentioned and told me to contact an email address in Texas. May be perfectly legit but seems a bit 'odd' at the same time and could be some form of scam.
Yep I had one offering an Email address for someone who has a centre stand available for my tiger Something dodgy going on @Rob @MrOrange !?
From Crispey a few days ago “@Bryn beware a scam going on where someone, bogus member, will pm you saying they know of someone selling what you’re after, they’ll give you contact details of their ‘friend’ you’ll send them the money, usually PayPal friends and family or similar, but you won’t get the goods. Read of this somewhere else.” and sure enough yesterday... message from Thomas01 telling me someone he knows has a front disc for a Bonneville SE and gave an email “Contact kerry in Texas he as a 2012 Bonneville Se Front Disc Here’s his email [email protected]” This needs sorting out
And I thought finally someone in Texas was going to send me a bulb shield for my Street Scrambler :-( Hurrumph; the quest must continue...
One forum I use, new members have to make 10 posts before they get access to the pm system... Installed after one registered and sent a forum wide pm including a link to a very nasty porn site. And there's a spam filter running as, well, so if they put a hyperlink in a post, it goes into an approval queue. Don't see a lot of spam on there.... Except when it's battered fritters... Mmmmmmm
Most of the stuff you don't get to see as it goes into my approval folder. Then I delete it and block them. Can't always stop them, even best filters will be beaten occasionally. As long as you guys report them, the're soon removed and blocked. Thanks to all who reported this eejit and all the others too.
Well, I know what's involved, so will happily say that you do a pretty damty fine job. It's a thankless task mostly, so here's a thankyou from me.
