Just heard from the lady who's garden i look after that her neighbor across the road found her Siamese cat dead on the golf course which is next to her bungalow poor woman has recently had some kind aneurysm and now she is devastated...the cat was shot presumably with an air rifle there are some real nasty folk out there maybe it was an irate grounds keeper who discovered cat crap in a bunker or maybe just a scumbag but either way its a real nasty thing to do....we always keep ours in the carefully fenced garden because of the road and if anyone ever did something like that i doubt i would be responsible for my actions ...i would happily sit and watch for anyone prowling about with a gun and pay them a visit with a baseball bat....or give them the same treatment as they gave the cat!

Geez. I don't like cats but I wouldn't do that.

We have lots of strays around the neighborhood, but they keep their distance thanks to Hannah the Dobie.

Not a cat fan myself but killing someone else's pet and. basically family member is right out of order! Should be treated more severely than it is. Even if caught there will be little if any punishment.

Shame the subject of someone losing a much loved pet brings out the anti comments...though it may be different here...obviously not then.

I don't think any of us miss the point or would disagree that it is plain wrong that someone thinks that they have the right to kill a person's beloved pet and can sympathise. In no way is that right and I would suspect that the kind of person that would shoot a cat, or a dog, or poison them does it for no other reason than because they enjoy the thought of how it will torment the owner. In other words they are bad bastards.

Clearly though such a subject does bring up grievances about the way cats are allowed to freely foul other people's property when it would be considered totally out of order to allow your dog to do the same and the killing of wildlife is a sore point. A cat neighbouring me is a very effective hunter and has claimed countless wild birds in my garden and left more than a few dumps over the years. I am sure if someone's dog was killing local wildlife while allowed to roam freely there would be hell to pay.

Living in a pasture is a constant battle with mice and other small rodents. Poison left around the house foundation generally cures the problem, but my neighbors have dogs and cats that roam freely. Big choice. My farmer friend will not hesitate to shoot stray dogs, as they agitate the livestock and horses. I like to refrain from killing, but the ground hog making house under my porch and moles making salad out of the yard is really a bridge too far. I would never point my shotgun at a house pet. Cats on the farm are a priceless commodity. Given the roads around here, pets that are not trained or constrained end up badly, as they don't stand a chance against a Ford F-250. If you love them, care for them.

I keep my cat inside at all times. The previous cat I let roam the neighborhood. It was a little cat, too. That was a mistake. First, other cats would kick her ass, and she had a wound abscess on her stomach once that required a drain tube to heal. Another time she got up in a tree and couldn't get down. I the morning on the way to work, I heard her meowing from high up. I had to borrow a neighbor's extension ladder to get her down. As I positioned the ladder to go up, a fox came trotting down the sidewalk to eat my cat. He looked at me, saw he was a little late, and turned around.

So no more of that. Keep your kitties indoors.

You see the very fact that a post about someone loosing a valued pet and member of their family and because it a cat it brings out oh they crap in my garden and kill birds (this in fact is a vastly overstated statistic used by the anti cat brigade) anyway i dont see any posts that mention a dog or any other pet for that matter with comments like they shit in my garden etc etc you get the drift.
And there would be far more people up in arms if this did happen so why does the cat get short shift i dont like the fact that hoses are allowed to crap on the road and lave piles of lethal crap for bikes to slip on, or dog owner that dont clear up, i dont like the wood pigeons that leave piles of crap in my garden for people to bring in on their shoes you see what i mean the owners of any particular pet really dont want to hear these moans and stories when they mention the loss of a loved pet...no matter what it is.

we used to have a cat which brought us presents.

she would terrorise the local mole population, bringing us live ones (completely unharmed but suitably traumatised) and deposit them at the foot of our bed. one time she gave us a baby bat (we had a bat colony locally) which wasn’t strong enough to fly, so we fed it sheep’s milk from an eye-dropper and kept it warm in a shoebox full of wool, until it it was recovered enough to get home.

I must admit to being a cat hater. This is partly due to being fed up of a cat or cats crapping on our drive and digging holes in our front garden and partly due to my first wife asking me to look after her cat Arthur for two weeks and she never picked it up again. I managed to find it a new home after about six months after I'd got thoroughly fed up of the barsteward scratching my carpets and furniture. It seems a bit odd to me that dog owners can get fined £1,000 for their pets output while cats can go and crap wherever. Some cat logs can be quite large and i'm sure just as unhygenic. I must admit my first instinct would be to kick such cat(s) into orbit if I could.
Other than that, if you let your cat wander freely, maybe you shouldn't be surprised if it comes into harms way ? And if I found out whose cat it was, what would they think if I went and dug a hole in their garden and then had a dump on their drive ?

I wonder what the opinions would be if every dog that got loose was treated the same...admittedly there are a lot of feral cats in big city's which can cause problems however we are talking pedigree cats here and most fools can see a Siamese is not your average cat as they are not cheap ...i just find it amazing and annoying that there are such double standards on these matters.

I wholeheartedly agree that pet cats should be chipped and registered and hope this becomes a law just like dogs at least then cats will have the rights accorded as dogs.

This is what I have to constantly put up with, left overnight be the local feline population

Don’t anyone try to tell me that it’s anything other than cat shit.

There is an Ancient Woodland that comes right up to the rear of my garden, why can’t they shit in there :worried:

On the subject of cats killing of wild birds it happens regularly in my garden
Cats don’t have to kill to survive nowadays so why don’t ‘Responsible’ cat owners put a bell around the cats neck, held on by a small collar then the local bird population would stand a chance.

That's a good point about the bell, a ships bell hopefully. But seriously, a couple of years ago we had a family of great tits nesting in our garden. A neighbours cat ate the dad and the mother couldn't keep up with the feeding so all the chicks died, all because one kit-e-kat stuffed cat murdered a bird it couldn't eat.

Give over pal, you are clearly and understandably emotionally connected to this pet murder!!! Most folk I know with pedigree cats keep them in and certainly overnight. Cats are a pain in the arse, they spray noxious piss all over the joint (Toms) and shit where not invited and kill birds!!!! Dogs did roam at one time most folks let them out to wander around, again unless pedigree until the law was changed!!! time cats were kept in unless under control and owners made responsible for their pets!!!! Having said that whoever the scumbag is that shot this ladies cat needs his balls lump-hammering or lettuce clipping if female, and if one of the other genders we seem to have evolved these days a suitable punishment agreed.

I certainly don't believe the toll that cats take on the local wildlife is overstated at all. I live at the foot of a mountain and open wild land here in Argyll and we have a quite varied collection of wild birds that visit our garden. The wife loves them and used to put out a fortune in food for them so she could watch them and she always worries about their wellbeing over winter. Last year a family moved from the other side of the village to near us and brought their darling cats with them. I have had to regularly remove the corpses of Robins, Sparrows, Coal Tits, Blue tits, Siskin, Chaffinches, Great tits, Thrushes, Goldfinches and wagtails from the garden. On one day the cats managed a tally of four birds of different species. It got so bad that the wife stopped putting food out for the birds and we removed the bird table and feeder. Plenty of cat crap in my garden too and, in the event that any dogs were roaming loose, not a common occurrence here as we all know there would be hell to pay if the farmer caught them loose amongst his sheep, they couldn't open the gates to my garden but, of course, cats don't need to open gates to foul my property. The owners of course regularly put posts up on the local Facebook page asking if anyone has seen them when they are away for long on their killing sprees.

Regularly find cat crap in our front garden - can't say it bothers me at all.

As this example shows, a cat might be someone's closest companion, or it might be keeping down other local vermin I have no knowledge of.

I can live with a bit of cat shit from my neighbour's cat - but I expect a similar tolerance of my bike starting up, or power tools.

Live and let live is my maxim.

But having said that, if I ever saw anyone deliberately injuring an animal, they'd get a slap (from behind if necessary!).
