Went for an early ride to lovely Swanage in Dorset today.

A nice 120 mile run through the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Tennessee today, nail I picked up a nail in the rear tire. I had to get the Missus to drive an hour to bring a repair kit and compressor. A five minute job and it’s good. I have a nice quality plug kit I have used on autos several times. I hope it holds on the bike. Any adverse reasons not to use a plugged tire on the bike? The tire is otherwise good, with not even 1k on it. If pressure is good over the next couple of days, I hope to run it as is.

I would not run it with a plug. Have a tyre shop vulcanize it from inside if they think it repairable. Not worth your life man.

 

The best argument I’ve heard for not using a plugged tire on a motorcycle is that if it goes you only have one tire left versus three on a car. I agree with @The Gong that it’s not worth your life.

Well I'm not usually a one for taking pictures, and thank my lucky stars everyday that the practice was not as common as these days during my youth!

But you're in luck!

As I had the GS ACF 50-ed the previous weekend, today was a rare as hen's teeth occasion in that both bikes were clean on the same day AND it was sunny!

Took my Triumph to Robinson's in Rochdale as the sun was shining. Had a test ride on this :-


Well what crap photographs they turned out to be.
Well the bike wasn't crap that's for sure. Kawasaki Z900RS in metallic grey with a green and black stripe on tank,front mudguard and tail. Ran beautifully. Much better than the T120 I rode last week I thought. Lighter and feels it, faster, better handling and in my opinion better looking. Throttle seemed a bit snatchy at low speeds at first but seemed to disappear once the engine warmed up. Nice and light on the steering, easy to flip around pot holes. The one I tested had the low seat which meant I could get my feet flat on the ground but the standard seat has the extra padding and I could near as dammit get my feet flat on the ground. Compared with the T120 the clock(time) and gear indicator were easily readable. The only advantage the T120 has as I can see is the it comes with heated grips as standard.
However, in my opinion, this bike is way ahead of the T120.

Yes. They gave me a PX i had hoped for rather than expected and I also got a set of heated grips thrown in. Pick it up early September.

As some of you know, I just got my newly acquired 1998 Daytona running for the first time in three years last Saturday. I have ridden it around the inside of the storage unit a few times and tried to get it titled and registered today. I was successful getting it insured, as that is done with private companies and not state governments.

I have an appointment now to do the title and plate Wednesday, but oh, I was planning on a ride today. So, I let the sun go down a bit for it to cool off and I got the tire pressure all sorted out front and rear. I rode around into my neighborhood with the old, expired Texas plate. No police to be seen. I think I already have a feel for the throttle and it's not surprising me. I treat it very differently than my old KLR-650. I could twist that one all the way with abandon. This throttle I treat with respect and admiration.

Darkness was never my favorite time to ride, but it was still nice. I loved how the engine braking immediately slowed the bike when you let off the throttle. This is a new experience for me and I like the control it gives you. I struggled a little to find the shift foot lever, but expect I will get used to that and other things. After Wednesday, I'll take it for a proper ride.

When I bought my T595 it was ok but needed new rear tyre, battery and a little TLC. Finally took her for a spin Sunday having completed said work (just wheels and bodywork to be sprayed now), nearly ended up on my arse as been a while since I rode a sports bike The exhaust was mega loud and a mate stated it's a race pipe. Second hand pipe and link pipe on it's way before neighbours rat me out. Went to get on t this morning only to hear a shout from the bedroom 'you better not thinking about taking that yellow bike to work, it's blowing a gale and I haven't sorted your life insurance yet'. Oh how I adore her
