First time posting here and somewhat dismayed to see that this is an issue.

Last year I had the same problem on my 2018 Street Scrambler. Went in and got fixed under guarantee. It took nearly two months. Yesterday going down a super-steep hill, I was unable to change out of 5th gear. Dangerous is an understatement. The wife, who was on the back, is livid and not willing to ride pillion again on this bike.

It's going back in under the last few months of the guarantee and I'm seriously considering getting rid, as this is twice in 5000 miles and next year it's going to cost me, what? £600?

What is the potential of getting a recall?

It's been talked about here too in the latest video by Stuart:

Hi, yes saw it this morning. I posted a link to the UK DfT on vehicle safety. Maybe if enough people make a fuss they will do a recall before someone dies.

To summarise that, a year ago Triumph produced a new gear selector [PDF] for most of the water cooled bikes, the implication being there's a problem they're trying to fix even though they aren't acknowledging that.

So now I've got something more to worry about, do I pay to get selector replaced, or risk bigger problems and costs down the line? :( In my two years of Speedmaster ownership I've had to have 4 things fixed under warranty so already not got great confidence in the bike. Can't say I'm likely to buy Triumph again...

This is all a bit disappointing, I was thinking of buying a 2016 T120 this weekend, but given the issue mentioned above I think maybe not, the one I was looking at has done 24k miles which didn’t bother me, but now does as bikes seem to be failing at higher mileages as well as low, oh well back to the drawing board!.

I have completed the online form to DVSA on the basis that my bike hasn’t yet developed the fault but Triumph, who are clearly aware should be more proactive. dealer advised me they can carry out a warranty repair only after failure.

DVSA were quick to respond and are asking for further information in order that they can investigate. I have sent them what I have but I think reports from those who have had the failure would be a great help.

You can leave any bike outside in the elements and it will look knackered as well. Like all modern bikes they need looking after
