The 'traveller' community do seem to be somewhat immune from the attentions of the law. My brother lives on the seafront in the town of Ayr and, the grass across from his house became a camp for them a couple of years ago, tearing up the well tended grass on the seafront with their vans etc. and burning old furniture to make themselves feel at home. No attention from the Police whatsoever but I guarantee that, if my brother had gone up on the self same grass and done a few burn-outs in his car he would been in the cells in a flash. I was speaking to a Joiner working on my house a couple of weeks ago who was telling me that they have made an encampment inDumbarton and now folks won't walk their dogs across the park or use it as a short cut as they get harrassed and threatened by the Travellers and his boss had to do some sort of deal with them to allow them to take whatever they want from the 'scrap' that results from his companies work or they would trash his premises. This 'scrap' used to be saved up by his workers and sold at the end of the year as their Christmas bonus.

Bring back Percy Sillitoe's method of Policing.

Man slaughter carries a mandatory life sentence. It is up to the judge to set the tarriff which is the point they can be considered for parole. Lets just hope the judge has a different view to the jury and sets an appropriate tarriff for the horrendous death of the police officer.

Today’s rant for me is the people “angry” at the new quarantine law for Spain. It’s to stop the spread of the virus you fuckwits. Sorry to infringe on your holiday “entitlement “. Once again I expect all these were clapping the NHS on a weekly basis but once it’s something that affects them then they are up in arms. Why would you make travelling abroad the first thing you would do ffs! If that’s your first priority then you should be ready for any changes to happen.

I was just thinking the same thing @SleepyOwl after reading the news story.
People were moaning about the delay in making facemask wearing mandatory saying it should have been brought in sooner, but when this quarantining is brought in quickly to address a rise in cases, they still moan.

No offense intended andypandy, just trying to inject a bit of humour into my rant. Being camp is in vogue these days it seems anyway. Not my cup of tea but each to their own.

'Scouts' as I knew it has changed beyond recognition. My two boys were members. I admire the devotion and time spent by the volunteers that run it. But picking my boys up one day, was astonished to see other children behaving exactly how they liked......kicking other children, running around, shouting whilst the scout leader is trying to talk etc etc. In a quiet moment afterwards, I asked why there was not more emphasis on discipline and was met with a strained silence..........it took me a long time to realise that a lot of parents use the organisation (certainly at our branch) as a child care facility so that the volunteers have to look after children with behavioural problems. The result is, that any child who goes along expecting to learn about field craft, knots, knife skills, morse, radio etiquette etc etc is side-lined by spoilt brats.

The entertaining way Duck tells a tale I have trouble deciding if it's fact or fiction. Taking it as fact, I'd say "ouch!" and glad it wasn't worse.

You're right, Donald didn't say it would "magically' go away; Eric Trump said it afterwards in an interview about his father's assertion that "It’s going to go away, and it’s — we’re not going to see it again, hopefully, after a period of time."

So at least one member of the family believes in magic. ;)

See, that is what dishonest people intent on spreading lies about people do and you did it as well. Once I pointed out the lie that President Trump never said it, you chose to cling to the covert lie of taking the quote out of context.

So you actually found the quote and still want to hold President Trump in contempt for something he didn't say. Good you aren't held responsible for everything your grown children say.

Here is what Eric (not President Trump, as initially claimed) said: "You watch, they will milk it every single day between now and November 3rd. And guess what -after November 3rd, coronavirus will magically, all of the sudden, go away and disappear and everybody will be able to reopen." This is political rhetoric and if, after reading it in context, you think Eric believes in magic, then I think you have a reading comprehension problem.

This is what the left does to try and harm people they don't agree with. They know their minions will repeat what they say because they are either too lazy to research the truth for themselves or will blindly follow the leader and not think for themselves. Thanks for showing us a great example of it. TDS abounds.

You're quite right. Reasonable discourse or opinion is quickly lost in the factionalisation that bedevills us these days. I was careful not to pass judgement, just lightly note that there was sort of validity to the comment. :)

Respectfully, I would disagree with your assertion. I quoted a part of what both Trumps said but I didn't really comment on it and I believe I quoted in the context of the specific point you raised about misquoting. If I had really wanted to suggest a member of the First Family believed in magic I would have said so. I don't, because it would be nonsense, obviously. Hence the little winky face at the end.

Clearly what I pasted in is part of a longer piece. I agree with you that quoting out of context is frequently used as a tactic that does nothing to bring people together, foster sensible discussion, or garner respect for the media, whichever way they lean politically. We see exactly the same issues over here, sadly. Were I a journalist I hope I wouldn't make that mistake when it mattered what I wrote.

A good friend of mine, and fellow biker, has quite opposing views to me on many things politically but we can have an impassioned debate regarding our different ideas on the best way to do things and still enjoy an few beers together at the same time. Because he's fundamentally a decent person, and that's what matters.
