Hi just joined forum, sold my custom chopper recently and hope to get a Thunderbird after 25 years with Harley's, I've looked at various 1600s and storms but not taken the plunge I know there are some people who think Harley's are shite but the only problems I've had is wear and tear .is there anything I should look for when buying for example high mileage say 30000miles for a 2010 my budget is 7 to 8 thousand . cheers tom
Hi Tom, I would lose your postcode mate. Nightstorm every time. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202007191411839?sort=price-asc&postcode=hr48dd&price-to=8000&advertising-location=at_bikes&radius=1500&make=TRIUMPH&model=THUNDERBIRD 1700&page=1
thanks thanks for the replies and welcome messages ,do you think 3300 miles on a 11 plate storm is something I should be worried about seller says he's changed oils and serviceable items himself.
3.300 is not a lot on a machine of that size I take it that's what you mean and not 33000, Look at the one linked by @Helmut Visor
Went to view that nightstorm but it just looked a bit tired and did not float my boat maybe a bit too much black
Don't jump for the first one if you are not sure, as mentioned check out others like the linked one and ask questions
Was just going to post that @Adrian Braithwaite has one for sale but see you've found it already. Not seen it myself but reckon you'll be hard pushed to find a nicer one for the price.
This one on flea bay (Brighton) minimal miles and shed load of extra's fitted and to take away. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-...158726?hash=item445f26dd86:g:kgEAAOSwdJFfCvoy Maybe talk a canny deal make delivery or pick up worthwhile But to be honest having just brought myself back up to speed on Adrian's Tbird advertised on here you would be hard pushed to do better than that for money and has some nice gear fitted and extra's , definitely not one to be missed and well worth a look as hell of a lot closer. GOOD LUCK !!
There's a storm on Facebook marketplace 2011 33000mls for £5250 seems a real good price should I be worried about mileage plus it's a long way from me
I've had Harley's last 20 odd years always done servicing myself don't trust some dealerships to do a good job, had some bad experiences,so if I had a good service manual I would take most things myself
Look at about £1000 for a 12 k service...valve shimming is the reason. I'd go for the lowest mileage you can afford I'd also recommend the 1600 over the 1700. Look up thunderbird clacking noise. 1 in 4 1700s have it...v few 1600s I'm on my 3rd Tbird...2 1700s and my current 1600.
