What I don't understand is that it must take a while to setup these illegal parties, so why are the local people not reporting this activity to the police early on and then the police can react and stop the party from developing. Doesn't seem to me to be that difficult .....
That's because in this modern world the young have been "educated" over many years to believe that they have an inalienable right to be or to do X and no one has the right to stop them being or doing X, where X is whatever their tiny minds think of. They are an I am doing whatever I want and fuck everyone else generation. They will threaten, abuse and vilify anyone, regardless of age, race or gender who objects to anything they do no matter how objectionable.
I wondered how long it would be before this report would happen... I’ve no idea of the true scale, but just walking round town to and from work, I see casually discarded PPE waste. Some folk don’t deserve a nice planet to live on... what’s with the headline by the way... shouldn’t it be “Don't be dirty bastards you barstards!” https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/scien...s-you-throw-away-could-end-up-killing-a-whale
I have given up on hoping mankind has any good judgement left. The under 40 set especally. I take.heat from a couple of my grown kids because I have opinions and moral standards. Live long enough and that is what happens. You learn about life and how it works. You form standards to live by. It is not all about "if it feels good, do it". We all have a moral responsibility. To our neighbors. To ourselves. To our families. To our unborn children [and grandchildren]. People do not seem to grasp those concepts anymore. We ALL.have to grow up someday. What are thier lives going to be like, if and when they regain reality ? ...J.D.
D.D..Good to see things are getting better over there. Here in the U.S. it is going from bad to worse. People just REFUSE to act responsibility. It is killing people by the droves. It is killing the economy. I'm laying low, and staying out of circulation myself. ...J.D.
They need to be a bit careful. What we saw happen here in California was they were making some progress against this thing, but the political people just could not stay out of it. They wanted businesses to open. The populace wanted thier life back to normal. Now the situation is worse than before. Out here where I live is not so bad, but in the highly populated areas like Los Angeles County the virus is on a real rant. ...J.D.
I'm not saying the lockdown had no affect, but let's see what happens this winter. Other coronaviruses are seasonal, and a summer drop off is expected.
I certainly hope that is what happens. We would all wish this would just go away. But to ignore the problem or not take it seriously is foolish. Political leaders want everything to go back to normal to keep the money moving. They are fools ! That is why I refuse to have my brain washed in the muddy waters that are politics. ANY politics. You come out tainted, no matter which side you take. ...J.D.
there's no fixing this, the lockdown did tremendous harm, and a repeat this winter would be a disaster. We're going to need to live with coronavirus just as we lived with measles pre 1964 vaccine. The country didn't fall apart every time there was an outbreak.
Well, I'm not going to try to predict the future. I am planning for the worst outcome and hoping for the best. I am certainly not listening to those who say it is all a "hoax". …J.D.
I agree, JD. This is a public health crisis and the fact that it is being politicized is absolutely appalling. What's especially crazy to me is that there are things that we can do to both help mitigate the wildfire-like proliferation of the virus and at the same time keep the economy going to some degree rather than simply shut down again. Many politicians and "so-called" leaders present it as either / or --just open up and let the chips fall where they may or lockdown everything and tell people to stay home. Arizona is an absolutely cluster and most of it is because of politics. I found this Goldman Sachs analysis interesting and informative. https://www.goldmansachs.com/insights/pages/face-masks-and-gdp.html The authors focus on mask usage and it's impact on both number of infections and it's effect on the economy. They suggest that "a national face mask mandate could potentially substitute for renewed lockdowns that would otherwise subtract nearly 5% from GDP. It is important to recognize that this estimate is quite uncertain because it is based on a number of statistical relationships that are all measured with error. Despite the numerical uncertainty, however, our analysis suggests that the economic benefit from a face mask mandate and increased face mask usage could be sizable." But our governor's message is "stay at home". He punted the decision on face mask mandates to mayors and county boards. Yesterday I e-mailed it to our governor for the 5th time in 10 days, but without much hope that he will read what I send. He is trying to please everyone and instead is pleasing no one and is not leading at all. No spine. If he's leading us anywhere, he's leading us into COVID hell. He held a press conference yesterday which I watched in its entirety. One of the reporters at the end commented that our AZ governor's approval ratings are currently the lowest of any governor in the U.S.and are even lower than Trump's". Which makes sense when his primary message yesterday, besides sharing graphs of our abysmal COVID stats, was "stay home". He followed that strong recommendation (just a recommendation) with the order that restaurants could be open but only at 50% capacity. One reporter asked him how people could go eat in restaurants if they were staying at home. That seemed to throw him for a loop. Oh, and when asked about mandating mask usage he said he wouldn't do that but that he's "a fan of masks". His words. Geez. We are doomed. And then there are our neighbors to the east of us in New Mexico (who have a very comprehensive plan which I've read all the way through). Seems they felt the need to pay for a full page ad in our Tucson Sunday paper to remind us that, although we're welcome, they're wary and we need to play by their COVID rules if we choose to visit. I guess I could have also posted all this on the Rant of the Day thread or the Place for Your What the Fu*&!k Moments. Lots of that going around.
That is a terrifying but telling image, DCS. And I know several folks that I'll be sending it to. A picture is worth a thousand words. And ten thousand virus-filled droplets of snot and phlegm.
These are times that test what we are made of. What is more important to you. Your money or your life. Your "RIGHTS" [ some say given you by some documents written long ago] or the value of human lives, not ONLY yours but that of every man, woman, and child on earth. Again, a test of what you are made of. Our value as human beings. ...J.D.
The government have been wishy washy about it all... ‘go to work, or stay at home..wear a mask but only if you feel like it ‘ The messages they have been sending doesn’t help he situation...If they just announced compulsory mask wearing in shops and enclosed spaces we’d all know where we stand
Yes but plain common sense says wear a mask doesn't it ? If people can't work that out for themselves then I have no words left FFS.
