Not that anyone is really looking forward to my updates lol but the used engine I ordered for my 2000 Sprint RS is finally here after much hassle from the freight company. Same year...almost same mileage 30k engine is here from a sprint ST. Can't weight to get some help lifting and bolting her up and putting it all back together.
Blimey, that engine is spotless! No guarantee that it's as good inside but a good indication that the owner looked after their kit. They are a heavy old lump but fitting isn't too bad, just bolt it up at the back and swing the front up into place. I have done it myself but much, much easier with two. Good luck.
Don't like the look of those uncovered inlet ports !! Make sure nothing's dropped in there before you fit the motor.
Better still , while the motor is out like it is , head off and inspect the internals ! Do a port and polish now if that's your thing ! Best do any performance works whilst you have it apart , as getting a motor out is 70% of the time and effort ! Either way as SPC 1 says careful nothing has got into any of the openings whilst it's been apart !
For sure won't be doing it alone unless my help doesn't show up like that sometimes happens. Thats exactly how I removed it. Bottom two bolts removed last and down and out with a jack with a dolley placed on top.
Yeah thats a valid concern. Only thing I can say is it does include a warranty and the seller has a large amount of positive feed back. It was standing upright wrapped in plastic. I simply removed the plastic and rocked it down to get it off the pallet onto the dolley. Id love to get into performance work but honestly I just want to get her back together and running and start on the other repairs. Some broken lights etc. Id say to be honest the most id do for upgrades is the exhaust for now. I'm used to Harley Davidsons so this bike already has more power than my previous bike lol
Good to hear it was covered up ! Just cover those ports until you are ready to put the bike and motor together. So Even with the motor on the floor ! There's more power than your previous HD's they must have really been disasters
May all your wrenches turn rightly, and your threads mate smoothly. Perhaps soon we will hear the burble of a well tuned triple.
I certainly hope so my friend. Id guess I'm about two weeks out or close to it. On account of the extended shipping times and all. But if it does burble it will burble here first lol
Water pump, starter, and alternator is in. About to make my first attempt at rolling it on to another dolley to get her right side up to raise in the bike. Hopefully I'll have it in by the end of the day
Anyone doing a job like this. Here's a tip don't put the engine in the frame put the frame over the engine simple to fit and lift. Regards Joe.
My thoughts. If it was just a frame it would no doubt be easy. But since it wasn't I couldn't use that tip...just used a platform jack and raised her up. Np
