    Hi Peeps,

Anyone fitted a performance air filter like K&N to their bike? Any benefits you have felt over stock?

    Thanks.

You won't feel any benefits in performance , well not from just an air filter change !
Do exhaust , air box clean out (on some models there are baffles) remove SAI if fitted and change the fueling map ... You could gain 6 or more HP and a few ft/lbs of torque !

Thanks for your reply and I appreciate it will not give much power gains. What I was wondering was does it give any slight improvements in throttle response or induction noise?

    Much? Probably none......

The OEM paper filter is minimally restrictive anyway. A filters job is to filter. A K&N pays for itself over time which presupposes you keep the bike long enough to warrant multiple filter changes.

If you think of an engine as an air pump you will appreciate it needs upstream and downstream derestricting to ‘breathe better’. I.e. both sides.

Have a browse here https://www.triumphtwinpower.com/triumph-twin-air-filters.php and around the other tabs for an idea of available cost/benefits.

Interesting read and thanks for the link. With all due respect I'm quite familiar with how engines work having had and tuned many high performance cars. Replacement elements rarely give any gains in power/torque on N/A engines, but what you can notice is crisper throttle response and increased induction noise. I guess what I was after was any real life experiences on the Bonnie if there are any benefits for what seems like a relatively cheap modification on the face of it. MCN posted a video today where they fitted a performance filter on RE 650 Interceptor so it just got me thinking that's all.

I have a K&N air filter on my Bonneville, but I seriously doubt it has any effect on performance. However the two changes that have made the most noticable difference are; less restrictive silencers, and a velocity stack bellmouth (getting rid of the snorkel).

Fair enough. I gained about 15-20% more mid range torque on my carbed T100 by removing the airbox baffle, fitting larger main jets and Vickers silencers from Fexed.com. I also removed the snorkel and profiled the aperture with domestic silicone to create a poor man’s bellmouth. I kept the stock filter but was careful in heavy rain.....
The 790/865 Is quite muffled by induction damping and heavy silencing.

I’ve had a few K&N filters in bikes but the only one that had improved induction noise was my Daytona 675 (2014) ,what I have found is with a K&N filter & iridium plugs is an improvement in mpg also if the bikes a keeper there worth having.

I use K&N not for performance but it is an oil impregnated air filter. The oil will naturally collect more of the fine particulates compared a simple paper filter.

    Just my 2 cents.
