There’s a couple of pubs round here that seem to be trying to get around the rules by having a temporary bar set up outside.
Went past one last night and there were hundreds of people on the green across from it sat out drinking and certainly not socially distancing.
Drove past an hour later after going to the supermarket and there were 2 police vans there, the bar had closed down but the punters were all still sat around drinking with the police sat in their vans watching.
Didn’t look there had been any attempt to disperse them

 

Same thing is happening here in Arizona and much of the rest of the U.S., freck. WTF!

No corona related deaths in the Netherlands today. We're hopeful things might be on the up.

 

Meanwhile, just up the road about 100 miles from Tucson........

Actually, the first photo was taken on June 1st and since that point our confirmed cases and hospitalizations in Arizona have gotten so out of control that our governor, Doug Ducey, allowed (really handed off the decision to) mayors and county boards to beef up local requirements regarding masks rather than to just follow his statewide mask and social distancing "recommendations". As you can see, those recommendations didn't work very well. Ducey had said he was counting on Arizonans to do the right and responsible thing.

So now mask requirements are in place in most of the larger towns and cities in Arizona and some crackdowns have started happening, particularly in bars. It is looking like too little too late, unfortunately.



And to top it all off, after Ducey's handoff of responsibility, the Phoenix mayor required all citizens to wear masks with a few exceptions (e.g. little kids, people with a health problem exacerbated by a mask). A few days later Donald Trump held a political rally in Phoenix with 3,000 people packed into a large church and no requirement to wear masks. Awesome. But, hey, the pastor of the church reassured everyone that they had installed a system in the church that killed 99.9 percent of COVID-19 in the air.

 

Tonight the Governor of California, along with the Mayor of Los Angeles were on the news trying to lock everything down. Virus cases are going through the roof ! The politicians speak both ways. "Got to get the economy moving". Then "Got to close businesses to contain the virus". They are just trying to please everybody so they get votes. Politics is such a stupid thing ! Wife and I have stayed home mostly since March 13th. She DOES do the shopping because she is less at risk than I am. But I worry about her a lot. Tonight my son texted us and ask for a grocery list. He works nights at the airport servicing airplanes for UPS. He will bring us groceries on his way home. He is living seperate from his wife and kids to keep them safe. Haven't seen the lot of them in months. ...J.D.

 

Yeah that's been the hardest part, not being able to give your grandkids a hug and spend time with them.

Well I worry about thier health too. They are staying with the other grand parents [also a retired couple]. School has been closed, but they could be exposed there too. Just a wierd situation. I don't think any of us has seen anything like this before. ...J.D.

 

I agree--politics is such a stupid thing. There is absolutely NO pleasing everyone at any time and least of all during a pandemic. This should be seen for what it is--a public health crisis not a political opportunity to choose sides.

What I simply cannot understand is why our "leaders" think that the decision related to opening businesses for the economy and wearing masks is an either / or decision. Had they had the balls to mandate masks we might have able been able to reopen more safely. But that didn't happen and we're now worse off now than ever. Our governor, Doug Ducey, clearly followed Trump's lead regarding masks after Trump made a visit to Arizona and didn't wear a mask---when he visited a frickin' MASK FACTORY! Even now Ducey won't mandate it statewide. Yesterday he held a press conference and mandated reclosures of bars, gyms and fitness centers, water parks, movie theaters, and tubing on AZ rivers (that last one is a puzzle). He also banned gatherings of more than 50 people. But, get this (I'm reading it straight out of our morning paper)--"Churches and political rallies are exempt". WTF!

As Wire-Wheels said, "they are just trying to please everybody so they get votes". Ducey was also quoted in the newspaper as saying "I think Arizonans are smart and have common sense and will demonstrate responsibility". Ummm, not based on the photos I've seen from around our state.

 

My wife and I went in to lockdown March 13. We are members of a church. We stopped all public meetings at that time. It is just too dangerous. I have watched people throw large parties in the neighborhood. My neighbor across the road has family over on the weekend, almost every weekend. We watched as large protests were gathered in the cities. And you wonder why the virus is getting the upper hand ? This is not a fun way to live, but take it seriously or it will take YOU out. ...J.D.

A child born in 1985 thinks his grandparents have no idea how difficult life is, but they have survived several wars and catastrophes.

Today we have all the comforts in a new world, amid a new pandemic. But we complain because we need to wear masks. We complain because we must stay confined to our homes where we have food, electricity, running water, wifi, even Netflix! None of that existed back in the day. But humanity survived those circumstances and never lost their joy of living.

A small change in our perspective can generate miracles. We should be thankful that we are alive. We should do everything we need to do to protect and help each other.

This message should reach everyone. Please help me spread it.

 

How true David: It is all about keeping things in perspective. The wife and I are in our 70's. My health is not so good. My wife is showing signs of slowing down. But we still make the best of it. Last night we met with over 100 friends on Zoom [a free video conferencing application] to upbuild one another spiritually. 40% of that group are over 60. Many have major health issues, including cancer, heart, and breathing problems. Even a few with dementa, etc.We share a hope for the future. We are free. We can breath, and enjoy a meal. Yes life is awkward right now, but we share our joy with one another by showing our faces, flashing a smile, and making upbuilding spiritual comments. I know this is not for everybody, but it sure beats the negative poison being poured out, and the hate all around us. Be safe out there. ALL of you. Black, white, yellow or GREEN for that matter. We are all one species. It is about time mankind starts to realize that. Don't let the worst of mankind ruin the rest of us. [End] …J.D.

Actually, I just read this week about several people who died from, yes, drinking hand sanitizer. You just cannot make this shite up.

 

I miss the original methylated spirits - very nice with ice and a dash of lime!

 

Depends on what the alcohol was distilled from. Also a good way to kill yourself. I prefer not to drink anything that is flammable …J.D.
