From a red faced correspondent. Couple of months ago, opened up garage got the saddle out and went to lock the garage. Looked around to see my (relatively) new machine tumbling to the ground, scraping down the garage door. Clutch lever sacrificed, scrapes to paint on crash bars but no other damage. Went for a ride and got over it. Ordered, collected and fitted new clutch lever. Yesterday, exactly the same again with the same results. Have now resorted to fixing the old clutch levers by making a copper brace on the reverse side which is secured by 3mm countersunk screws. Got that far but trying to aluminium solder the crack fest is another matter. Any road up......(and I am not trying to take the blame from me).......there is a small slope outside my garage (very small)......the bike rolled off the side stand on both occasions in a way I would not expect it to. Off to arrange a draw down on the mortgage now for clutch levers, spray paint and foam rubber for outside garages.
Thanks DD...... will do. 'Tis a service road at back........have a choice of short route or long route down unmade Congolese dirt track with sundry dismembered TV's, cars and humans not to mention the national roofing nail dump (explains why I go the way I do but doesn't excuse it). The narrow passage and small turning circle exacerbate the issue but I have no other choice other than to do as you suggest which, really, I should have done at the start. Having originally had a side car ain't used to all this tipping bimblage.
Thanks Wessa.....another sound suggestion. Thinking about it, the complicating factor is the need I feel I have to get launched before the whereabouts is spotted.... Need to work on that aspect as well. What a pitiful state to get into.
I've probably told about this already, but I'm old and can't remember shit, so here goes . . . I once rolled into a parking lot trying to look cool to a blond in a Mustang and forgot to put my kickstand down -you know what happened after that- and it wasn't cool. Fortunately, the cure for that is that it happened. I have never forgotten to put the kickstand down since.
Especially when you consider I had to ask my wife to help lift the first time and sons the second.......what a plonker!
I was asking because I have a set of levers for a T100, but they will also fit various other Triumphs. If they are any good to you then you are welcome to them?
That is really kind Mr B .....and of course some compensatory Lucca would be offered, if appropriate. I cannot see from here whether these would fit and so will look them up. Thanks again.
No problem, and I don't want anything for them just glad to help out. Seeing as we are in the same county, you can take them and try them, if they fit then great, if not return them whenever. Send me a private message, if you are interested and we can arrange a meet.
That's what I do when parking on a down slope but I remember to let it roll forward first to take up the slack in the gearbox/drivetrain before putting it onto the sidestand. It seem to me that there's about enough slack to allow the sidestand to fold otherwise.
Thanks Mr B and thanks Matt. Mr B.....have ordered a carp replacement JMP for £16 or so. That is all I deserve. Will message anyway for recon. to simply buy a jar for you having offered.
I bought a Guzzi breva 1100 from a guy who was smaller and older than me( I was 61 and 5' 7" ) who kept dropping the bike in hardstanding behind the shops he had a flat above, should have told him to park out front but!!
Hey, @JtC, I think that was me in the Mustang! And you sure did look cool. Briefly. Good to know you're what I call "a one trial learner".
