Just had a blue 2007 tiger 1050 delivered this afternoon. Its a bit breezy in County Durham so cant get out to play. I know, I'm a big wuss! New to triumph so hoping for good things. I also have a Suzuki GSX 1400. Ian
Hi Ian. Wind plus bike is not a wonderful combination. I feel your frustration but that's better than feeling pain/embarrassment/and a hefty repair bill after dragging your new P & J out of a muddy ditch in the middle of nowhere (Consett??). Plenty of time for fun in the near future!
Hello Ian and welcome to the Triumph Playground - ENJOY !!!!!!!!! Nice bike the Tiger 1050 - nice amount of power with comfortable riding position.
Hi Ian we only have loyal Triumph owners on this forum the Suzuki will have to go...............................joking welcome in, tell us what you prefer and have you owned a Triumph before ???
Hi Ian and welcome, I am sure that you will love the Triumph itnis a very capable bike. A mate of mine came to the French Alps with us a few yrs ago. We wernt hanging about on the Route Napolean and he kept up ok. regards Lou
P The 14 is a great bike. I have had mine for 6 years. Loads of easy power and a comfy ride. I was going to P Ex mine agianst an Explorer, but couldnt bring myself to part with her, so bought a tiger as her stable mate. My 14 is called Bertha, ( cos she is a big girl) need to name the tiger yet. Yes, I name my bikes! Ian
Not had a Triumph before. However, just had first ride out today and... Rather underwhelmed! I was expecting a little more umph. At high revs, open the throttle and , well, ok, but not exciting. I hoped for better. Also, driving in a 30 zone, middle revs, the bike seemed very jerky. Engine sounds fine, so maybe suspension to firm for me. Cant find anywhere to tell me how to adjust the pre load yet, but will take a look. So I will take it back to the dealer and ask him to check it over. So far, glad I didnt sell the 14. Ian
Hi IAN, sorry to hear you're underwhelmed . Maybe you should have gone for a triumph speed triple if you wanted something to perform like the Suzuki? Or a test ride before buying.
I cant find anywhere near me that will do test rides anymore. I bought the tiger for the style of bike, so tripple speed wouldnt be an option. I am not convinced its right. I will let you know!
Hi Ian, I think you're experiencing a bit of what I had when I moved away from my tuned 1200 Bandit (not the same as a 14 but similar) and onto a Duke ST2. These big capacity old skool bikes have enormous gobs of torque in the 2500-4000rpm range which is very seductive. But I assure that even though it may not seem like it right now, the Tiger 1050 IS a better, overall bike it will just take you a little time to acclimatise. After you have had your 14 for 7 yrs. Incidentally and curiously I had my Bandit for 7 yrs as well.
Guess I'm spoilt with 3 dealers near me, I bought the 800 and love the way it pulls and handles But that's coming from a Thruxton which I also love the way it pulls and handles!
Thanks Dave. I had a 1200 bandit before the 14! Anyway, I have to take it back to get the heated grips fixed so will ask them to test ride it and see what they say.
Seems to be the way its going round here. Ño will will let you test them.. It may be me needing to change my riding style. I am used to big lazy big torque engines. But in its defence, thats not what I bought it for. I want a bike that will do longer touring with Mrs H on the back and this should do the job nicely.
When you make a big change in your biking life, there is always a period of doubt but just get some Tiger miles under your belt and you'll soon be smiling. I know a number of guys who've gone through the same change and it has always worked out for the best. Just a small thing, but might I suggest that you check your tyres thoroughly for age, wear and pressure - just to ensure that all is as it should be, in that department. You know what a difference old, worn tyres can make.
Big lad is bang on, one day riding my mv I suddenly found it would not turn and felt horrible. WhenI checked tyre pressure was down only 4psi, inflated to correct pressure and everything was fine. With modern bikes the trye pressure is critical for correct feel and handling. Remember (life's to short to grow up) regards to all Lou
Biglad is right again. Tyre pressure must be bang on or sometimes (depending on the bike) up to 2psi over. The Trident handles better for a couple more over the specified amount.
