Apparently the episode was removed because of the repeated use of the N word by the Major in the unedited version of said episode.. That scene was to illustrate what an old relic the Major was. It's still censorship though.

To be honest, you watch any American modern contemporary drama or film where the cast are predominately black the script writers have them using the N word to each other constantly, I am watching a Netflix series 'Power' at the moment & there is barely a scene where the word is not used. :worried:
I don't get why the word is used so much or why it is any more acceptable for it to be used between 2 black people? If the word is so truly offensive stop using it altogether, or is it fair enough for the TV & Films to use it because it reflects 'real life'?
I can't abide racism, for somebody to judge another purely on the colour of their skin shows a lack of understanding & a disregard for history, which if ignored, has a habit of repeating itself.

I am still of the opinion that the older TV shows & comedies were of their time & should just be left alone, once censorship starts it just breeds more division, as soon as either extreme of the equation gains ground there is a reaction & division grows, most of us live in the middle ground somewhere.

This has been an unusual & uncharacteristic post for me, I don't normally pass serious comments on the Forum, it won't happen again in a hurry! :)

Pretending stuff didn't happen by banning it doesn't seem to be a good solution to me, so I'm with you there Billy.. All this stuff, Gone with the Wind, the Alf Garnet TV shows etc. etc. They were of their time.

Someone posted on Facebook , that its not just Black lives that matter its ALL lives. A second person posted. You don't get it do you? Some Black people are afraid to go out of their front doors in this country.

My question is; Is that true? If so, we do need to do something. No one should live in fear of going out of their front door. I see no evidence of that myself, but I suppose I don't live in an Urban Tower block or inner City borough where racism may prevail.

I've just read this and I'm quite shocked. I looked for the punch line but there isn't one. You really mean that it's perfectly ok for a group of policemen to murder another person? That's basically what you've said. And then you wonder why people get angry about it. Really?

Judging by the news over the last few years the only people they have to fear are other blacks, isn't most of this knife crime black on black and probably black on white (although we wouldn't hear about that one would we!)

And another thing while I'm here. There are times when you hear (or read) something you strongly disagree with or know is wrong and you have to say something. You can't walk away (or simply click on another topic) and ignore it. History is littered with examples of people walking away or afraid to get involved or pretending it isn't happening. Just occasionally you have to stand up for what you believe in and face the bullies.

I was just going to hit the agree button but wanted to add you’re right not to walk away or ignore anything.

Although some views here I strongly disagree with I’m not seeing evidence of any bullying

I didn't specifically mean on here. I was referring to people we come across occasionally who try to impose their ideas or beliefs on others by being aggressive, either physically or verbally, ridiculing and sometimes encouraging others to follow their lead in order to intimidate or shout down.
I also think it's wrong to simply say " well if they can't stand up for themselves..etc".

There you go, here’s a post which shows why all of this trouble has escalated.
At no point in the @Duckadiledundee post has he expressed the opinion that it was ok to murder George Floyd, neither has he condoned or approved of any of the police’s actions, yet @beerkat has been quick to implement his own judgement and be ‘quite shocked‘ at the post. I see no reason why.
Personally I agree with Ducky’s sentiment. George Floyd wouldn’t have given a flying f@ck about any of us, not knowing of any of us. This in no way means that I would condone him or anyone else being killed by the police or indeed anyone at all. It was a tragic and needless death.
People are unjustly killed everyday across the globe, Black, white, yellow, brown, pink......and no doubt in much more horrific and torturous ways but there isn’t chaos ensuing because of those deaths so why now? It’s just a media frenzy sucking in gullible idiots searching for something to be outraged by so they can shout out and be validated to satisfy their own self worth and political leanings.
Of course this is just my own opinion.
    Let the flaming commence ;)

    I have issue with this...

Since when did we start calling blokes bitches? Sounds a bit wet to me... a bit “Hollywood”... when I was a lad the word would have been “Tw@t”

The bloody snowflake liberals are knocking over our swear words now!!!

I also agree with Duck's statement that Floyd probably wouldn't give a flying fuck about any of us and I agree that he could well have been a scumbag.
Duck said he didn't understand why the killing of this man by the police, has had such a negative impact on everyday lives. You are right, he didn't say it was ok to murder Floyd. However, the simple fact that someone can't understand why the blatant murder of anyone at the hands of the police has upset a lot of people suggests to me that they must think there's not really a lot to be fussed about. That's how it comes across, but I appreciate that you aren't reading it in quite the same way.
And if you put it into context it is even more surprising (to me at least) that you would wonder 'why the negative impact?'. Racial tension is far higher in the US. I am neither American or black so I cannot really know what it's like. But I can understand why this murder has had an impact on so many lives.

DD my point was in response to comments suggesting that if there's something you read that you annoys or (dare I say it?) offends you, then you have the option of simply ignoring it. As a general rule that's probably a good way to live our lives. But there are moments when you can't do that and have to respond. I'm not for a moment claiming that someone who disagrees with me is bullying me, neither am I stamping my metaphorical feet. But if people totally ignore things they're not comfortable with, or things they think shouldn't be happening, then bad things happen.
