The best thing for your sidestand switch is not oil which attracts dirt but silicone grease which repels water.

Since the engine is turning over I would want to establish if I had a spark. Its absence keeps you checking electrics whereas a good spark makes fuel the more likely issue.

98 plate Daytona am I right that the crankshaft sensor is on top next to spark plugs? Disconnected from connector and measured with home meter set 2k ohms measured between all 3 prongs and getting nothing accroos any of them. Hanyes manual reckons 1.3k ohms. Does that sound right to you guys?

    Saga so far

Clutch switch working, bike tries to turn when clutch lever pulled in and nothing when clutch lever is out

Neutral light working, bike is definitely in Neutral.

side stand switch working, tested working with ohm meter

have spark at all 3 plugs, which are all brand new.
Cam sensor cleaned although no idea how to test it.
    Battery charged up again.

I’m getting close to thinking now that I may have to take it to a garage and admit defeat.
Have ecu plugged in and check for codes unless there is anything else I can try?

Have you got a wiring diagram @2wheeler ?
If not, I can send you a copy of the Triumph manual one if it helps.
Crankshaft sensor is in the r/h crankcase and cable comes out at the top by the cylinder head
It’ll be worth you getting Tuneecu if you’re going to be keeping the bike, the Windows version is free. You just need to buy a cable from Lonelec, then you can check codes, test bits and even tune it

i have a Haynes manual with diagrams. Cam sensor is top right side by plug 3. It’s 3 wire, having trying to get 12 volts between permanent and ground and trying to test voltage on switch line wire while passing metal in front of magnet lol. Cam replacement is only 20+ quid. Is it worth trying that before trying to access ecu?

was thinking of keeping it, but the amount of trouble having with it I’m unsure now. I do like the bike, but it replaces my cbr 6 f-w that got binned. And the love ain’t the same at the moment.
Just surprised how it started fine then after a pull away side stand cut out that was it.

the only thing I can think of now is sparking isn’t on correct timing or the cut out did something with fuel delivery. Although when I turn ignition on, can hear the fuel pump buzz for a few seconds.

I’ll look into the ecu hook up on line, see what’s involved. Any links to where I can buy the computer connection cable?

Thank you, saves money on someone telling me error codes. If I can find that out at least It’s easier for me and increase the Mellon on my neck with more knowledge lol

    Right then peeps

got my ecu lead and laptop set up, found my fault codes

P0113 inlet air temp sensor open circuit or short circuit to battery

P0105 Barometric pressure sensor circuit malfunction

P0118 coolant temperature sensor low voltage (short to ground or open circuit)

no idea where all are on bike, but sure the Haynes can point me in the right direction. Will keep you all posted if I can fix them. Again any help or tips would be great

    thanks for the help

Just a stab in the dark here. Have you checked all your fuses. It does make a difference even a fuse that looks good can be blown i now test all my fuses with a small bulb and battery. Also a lot of these faults rectify them self's if you disconnect the battery for an hour or so and reconnect.
    Wishing you lots of luck.
    Regards
    Joe.

each fuse checked with ohm meter in fuse box and battery was out the bike in charge for 2 days on a optimate 3 charger. Checked them twice

Got tank off again and measured sensors compared to Haynes values mild day so values between 10-20 degrees

My temp cold engine value 2.66k ohm
    Haynes 2.35k ohm-2.65k ohm

My air intake temp 2.55K ohm
    Haynes 2.3k ohm - 2.36k ohm

my air pressure sensor has 3 wires 5v—out—Grnd

No values to compare in Haynes manual. Not sure these readings are right.

    5v-out=5.4k ohm
    5v-gnd =3.95k ohm
    Out-gnd =9.4k ohm

I’d say, to start with, you’ve got the coolant and air temp sensors the wrong way round; they both have the same type of connector and it’s easy to mix them up.
They both come out of a small loom on the r/h side of the frame. The coolant sensor is by the coolant pressure cap (under the tank front cowl) and the air temp sensor is at the front of the airbox.

The barometric pressure sensor is part of the ECU and has an air input from one of the small hoses on the r/h rear side of the airbox. It’s usually a thin plastic pipe rather than a rubber hose.

I’ve now snapped, the house connection point on air box that goes to idle throttle manifold . New air box coming Friday anyway. Just wanted to be sure my sensors are at correct readings.

my 98 T595 Daytona has a 3 wire pressure sensor in the air box above the throttle body, don’t think it’s ecu integral like newer models. My ECM is a MC2000.

Think I will order new MAP sensor while it’s in pieces.

wait for new air box and sensor and put back together.
