I’ll tell you what made me laugh......

Coming back from Bosnia (I was ‘one of the first’) and going on leave with the family to the Lakes and finding the inscription on Hardknott Fort. It was built 2,000 years ago by bleedin’ Dalmatians......Yugoslavs!

The Vikings were seemingly making their way home in three long boats, and before heading out to sea sent a Raiding Party ashore for supplies.
The alarm was raised and when the Vikings tried to return to the beach their way was blocked by locals, forcing then onto the spot marked on the map as St Johns Kirk. Its a straight drop of 100 feet or more and while stranded the raiders were harried from above with boulders and tree trunks

The three ships in the party sailed west for 20 miles to Cullen beach, to find a safe landing and set out back, too late, for the be-seized party, and tragically to their own demise, because a quick raid, had turned into a slow rescue attempt, and had given the locals time to prepare an assault.
In Cullen to day there are rock formations and a pub called the Three Kings, and in Gardenstown, the leader of each boats head, was cut off, and placed above the Alter in the Church of Sculls, built by the victors to commemorate their win.
