Hi all, I'm new to this site and triumph. I recently bought a new scrambler and I'm going to put a different exhaust on it. I have seen the arrow and scorpion systems on the Internet and prefer the look of the scorpion but I have been told they can be awkward when starting from cold. Can anyone she'd any light on this.

The guy at the triumph dealership said that the scorpion exhaust doesn't need remap but arrow system does. Sounds dumb but what do they mean by remap?

Thanks half ton and crispey that has helped a bit. Yep I got the bike from Watton and I love it just can't wait for some better weather so I can get out on it. Jack Lilley do supply the pipes and as you say it really looks good but for the sake of the bike I think the arrow might be the safer option. Do you think it would be better to run the bike in for a while before adding a new exhaust?

Thanks for your help I'll do a bit more research and hopefully get to see both systems in the flesh.

The MAP in a fuel injected engine is a package of settings within the ECU to ensure the engine runs to it's optimum.

Re-MAPPING is required when you change components in and around the engine to allow more air to flow through it, (for example when fitting more open exhausts) to change those settings to optimise the motor in it's changed configuration.

Think of it as the electronic version of changing carb needles.

I have the arrow 2 into 1 on my scrambler, without the baffle fitted it's not that loud lol, nice finish and very easy to fit as well :)

Thanks biglad and darkman for the input especially the piece on remapping it makes sense now. I bought the bike because of its looks with the and I like it with the original pipes on but I would like them to be louder so maybe the tor system would be worth looking at. Anybody on here that's using the tor system I would love to hear from. Thanks

Before you make up your mind about exhaust pipes, have a look here - the quality is great and really good VFM :

There is also a video on the same page so you can listen to the sound of the pipes.

Insurance company will need to be informed and I Know MOT inspections for cars are changing to include a test for checking remapping of engine control modules if you can go along route of staying away from remapping it will be less hassel if this rule is placed for bikes it could cause a problem remapping your bike back to your bikes original settings also if pipes are to noisy the inspectorate don't like this either, my noisy can be changed over easy for MOT tests and no remap done so no problem, all food for thought

If you are involved in a motoring incident and you get a proper traffic cops they are so clued up on what is correct and what is not so please be sure you are keeping your bike the right side of the law, you cannot plead ignorance of it.

Further to the exhaust enquiries does anybody know if I would have to have the bike remapped if I went for the tor system?

If you change nothing but the exhaust pipes you'll be OK without re-map, imo.

Just spoke to Jack Lilley who sell the scorpion system for the scrambler and they advise you to have a remap. Originally the scorpion was advertised as not needing one but due to the amount of flames it was chucking out they have changed their minds.

To be honest I like the look of the bike the way it is just want a little bit more noise. As for performance it's a scrambler, if I wanted to get my knee down I would have gone for something else. Just have to be patient and hope to bump into someone with the Tors on and see how much noise you get out of them.
