I have just fitted a new DID vx 530 chain and sprockets to my 201¹ speed triple. The number of teeth on both sprockets match the ones taken of and the chain is the one recommend. 530. I new something wasnt quite right when I could not get the rivet link into the chain so I decided to put the link in with the chain of the back sprocket, then just managed to get the chain on by rotating the back wheel with the chain over the rear sprocket. My problem now is I have no more than 10mm of slack in the chain even though its fully de-ajusted on the cam.
Any help would be much appreciated.

They can seize, how much movement are you getting? Now may be a good time to grease the hub and bearings.

With the new chain on I cant tell as it appears to be fully de- adjusted. How can you see if there is more to back off?

I could stand to be corrected but from memory, with the chain off you should be able to rotate the eccentric hub through a full 360deg. rotation (unless it's seized).

Just count the links on the old chain. Count the links on the new chain. Then you'll know if it's the right length or not.

Just found that the old chain has 108 links, and the new chain has 106. Hence the problem. Hopefully I can add another link with 2 rivet links to cure the problem. As there is very little slack in the new chain should I not use it until I have sorted this out?

i think you can cause damage with a chain that tight

Don't ride it. You could cause significant damage to your output shaft and/or bearing. 10mm play is far too tight.

Return the short chain and get the one with the correct number of links. Adding more links = more rivetting = more points of potential failure. Ideally you only want the one riveted link. Don’t try to make a wrong job right, do it right the first time.
