I see that a new Harley big twin was announced the other day... £800 less than the current cheapest softail.

    UK prices
    Triumph Bobber £10,650
    New H-D Softail Standard £11,495
    Triumph Bobber Black £11,650
    Triumph Speedmaster £11,650
    H-D Street Bob £12,295

Has Harley Davidson been losing sales to Triumph?

I also noticed that the H-D website is now listing power figures. I'm sure Harley used to list only torque, not power, in the specs.

Harley sales are down globally and the worst in their home market for two decades. Apparently failing to attract the younger market as the traditional market declines.

Harleys one tool that does it all unfortunately doesn’t and it’s like70’s black n white TVs with three channels. On the other hand Triumph have modern TV channels without the children’s programs so Harley is bound to fall behind

Thats true, however, in the 70's my dad would bash the side of the telly when it went wrong and it was fixed, now I need a computer graduate, laptop, team of software engineers and a manual the size of the encyclopaedia Britannica (remember them). Too many gizmo's is a recipe for issues. Crikey I'm getting old

If HD is in decline I wonder how long it will be before the wider motorcycle industry sales go into decline? All brands are suffering with an older rider population ......

Id buy a harley in a second... Drop 300 pounds off the bike , 8000 off the price , and in some liquid cooling and modern engineering and kill the remaining half of their fan base and like i said in one second
    ...

I speak as one who's owned lots of Harleys.( I've recovered now). They are not only far to pricey but unsuited to the kind of long distance riding and touring that I enjoy. Defenders of the brand will no doubt point to lots of high miler big twins but in my all too painful experience these are bikes that get gently ridden for the most part. All mine just fell apart.
And everything to do with them just costs so so much money.
I recall trading in a wide glide for s brand new Bonneville America....in about 2010 and being amazed how much better it was to ride any distance.
    I haven't looked back since.

I have no use for a 900 pound noise maker. H-D is a company that just needs to fade off in to history. ...J.D.

641 pounds. The H-D Softail Standard is "only" :) 100lbs heavier than the Speedmaster.

Perhaps people have just finally seen through Harley’s marketing BS. Harley’s only ever sold on image, that of the bad ass biker outlaw. Middle class Bob and Doris fell for it and got dressed up in Harley branded gear and played out the role on a weekend, weather permitting of course. So now they’re to old or the novelty has worn off so they stop buying. The few younger riders about can’t afford them (or most new bikes tbh), and realise (as do the present owners if they are honest with themselves) Harley’s short comings.
    So what do we have?
    Over priced ✅
    Over weight✅
    Crap brakes ✅
    Crap suspension ✅
    Crap handling ✅
    Crap engine performance ✅
Add as many more as you wish. ;)
Isn’t it a case of Harley’s higher management being short sited, resting on it laurels?
Hang on!! Who said Meriden in the 60’s/70’s? :yum
