Does anyone know how many turns the air mixture screw should be on a thunderbird 900 (2000)

Most carbed Triumphs are 2 to 2.5 turns out.

    I have a 2000 Legend. I have mine at 2 1/2 turns. I had them at 2, but I noticed that when I didn't downshift exiting a turn and lugged it a little, I had a flat spot. ...J.D.

Hi turn the mixture screw fully in then screw it out one and a half turns for the initial setting, you can tweak it once running to suit, weaker or richer, this usually works fine when you have no access to the correct gauges. Hope this helps

Gauges are useless unless you have something that can read mixture. ...J.D

Hi that's exactly what I meant, I should have been a little clearer I guess, I'm fortunate that I have an extensive workshop and equipment being an ex mechanic in a previous life. I understand it's not viable to have the kit if you only use them occasionally, I lend out tools Etc to club members now and again, although it's not possible at present.

I have gauges to set balance but it would be nice to have something to measure AFR. But I don't really think I would use it enough to justfy the expense. I'm also an old mechanic...J.D.

I have always setup idle air/mixture by ear even on Jap multi's its not foolproof but works most of the time, Carbs wear and the the idle mix can change due to a few factors so its never an exact silence.
You can buy AFR gauges that rely on a temporary of fitted aide band lambda sensor that will give you a precise mixture reading at any load/RPM used to use them when tuning turbo Jap cars.
