I’ve seen that DIY shops are policing this themselves, but not consistently.
I wanted to buy some Cuprinol Ducksback paint to finish off my fences while I’ve been at home but haven’t been able to buy any as it’s deemed to be not an essential purchase.
However, when I was at the shop in question to collect some roofing felt, I saw someone collecting some Cuprinol Garden Shades paint. How is this an essential item and fence paint isn’t?

 

It is open to interpretation but the whole point is not to be so prescriptive and draconian in what is allowed and not allowed
The basics are there and the rules are known, it is hoped that people can understand the dangers and self police knowing the consequences
I for one welcome the latitude it gives and am happy to police my own activities

 

Government said if a shop is open legally, then customers can buy any item available in the shop.

 

We don’t quite have the same madness here. You can buy what you like from a garden center or DIY store, you just have to keep a distance from other shoppers

To many Brits who don’t want the jobs

 

This is just down the road from me the first planes landed at Cambridge air port yesterday.

To be fair, a good number of Brits volunteered to pick fruit and veg in the first place but farmers objected on the grounds that they wouldn't be properly trained and would be more of a liability. Part of the Romanians job is to train British workers in the finer arts of fruit picking!

Well there is a surprise, lets have a go at those wealthy pensioners. Pensioners pay their due through taxation in exactly the same way that people in work do. The triple lock is there to protect pensioners from exactly this kind of exploitation. Rant over.....

 

They can all feck off and get a job, just like our generation had to do ..... maybe if they do they will be able to enjoy their retirement when they get there as well.. I'll get my coat

I shall keep the rant going.
These are the same pensioners (or boomers as millennials attempt to insult us with) that went through the 16% interest mortgages and now get bugger all on our savings. Simple answer to pay for the Corona is to jack up PAYE by 5% when/if its all over. But the easy answer is to shaft the old'uns, assuming there are any left. RANT is taking a rain check but could flair up unless I get a bike fix soon.

 

Informed this afternoon that I am being made redundant at the end of May
The industry I am in has taken a nose dive and all regional offices have to make significant cutbacks. It is likely that the six regions will be cut back to three, maybe just two offices

Still, having looked on the internet, there are jobs being advertised but I am competing against younger, more qualified, but less experienced accountants for the same job.

Not worried...yet

There are many people a lot worse off than me, I count my good fortune in that my family including all of my wife's side are all healthy and the COVID19 hasn't directly affected any of us

 

It is likely that higher earners will be hit with a larger PAYE tax and all employees will face an increase in NI
Also the upper NI threshold will most likely be reduced to include a larger piece of the earnings pie
Pension age may be increased to 70 to reduce government spending

I also reckon VAT may be increased to at least 25%

 

The vast majority of pensioners rely only on the basic state pension to live on and protecting this is vital to ensure they stay above the poverty line. Yes there are many pensioners who have additional occupational pensions and they will pay tax in exactly the same way as everybody else who has an income...
