I turned on the ignition today to move the bike and noticed a strange electrical type buzzing noise. Bike starts OK and no engine light on. The noise stops a couple of seconds after the ignition is turned off. I haven't lifted the tank yet to see exactly what is making the noise. It hasn't been run for a couple of months but didn't do it the last time it was turned on. 2018 RS. Any ideas?
Have a look inside the fuel tank with the bike running, if the fuel is swishing about it could be a split fuel hose meaning that the pump is struggling to keep enough pressure.
He said it's doing it all the time the bike is running. Well actually he didn't but it sounds like that's what he meant.
It's not the fuel pump. I can here that prime and then stop. It's more of an arcing sort of noise. I presume it is still doing it with the engine running but the engine drowned it out. I'll lift the tank later to see if I can find what is actually making the noise. The bike has only done 2500 of which I have done about 100. I've had the ignition on several times but not heard this noise before.
What about the IACV stepper motor? That operates for a few seconds after the ignition is switched off.
Err... No. It seemed to be under the airbox. Maybe from the electrical black box bolted to the back of the airbox(photo taken) or from the TPS area (photo taken). So I unplugged the TPS connector and sure enough the buzzing stopped. Reconnected it and still no buzzing but now has an error on the dash and the bike won't start .
Hmm, the TPS is only like a potentiometer, there's no motor or anything. You might have to reset the TPS to get the bike to start. Do you have TuneECU?
That is exactly the same as mine. I disconected the battery for 5 minutes and now it starts but the engine light is on and the throtlle body/TPS is making the buzzing noise again.
Yes throttle seems OK. I just rode it round the block (about a mile) and feels fine. Engine light still on. Still making the noise when the ignition is on. I'm hoping to get a reply from JChimpo. It's still under warranty. So if need be I can put it in the shop, if/when they are open. I don't have ECUTune or DealerTool yet.
If it's the same as my bike, the engine light will go off after 3, (I think), heat/cool cycles. Is it FBW throttle or cable?
I haven't resolved it yet, the noise is still there, but the bike runs great. I'm just curious to know why it started out of the blue. By the way once you disconnect the TPS connector you will get an engine light error and will need an ODB to clear it. I cleared mine and the engine light has not returned.
FBW. Seems to be servo noise. I do have ElmScan5 which I use on my car. Could I damage the bike if I connect a code reader to the OBD2 socket that is not TuneECU or DealerTool?
Linx. You are worrying over nothing. They all buzz and hiss away. My 2018 Bonnie does it all the time but runs superbly. The dash lights three 12minutes runs or rides will clear those when the setup sorts itself out again. Just ride the bike and enjoy. Worry when it stops. Regards Joe.
