When I did my Arctic adventure I noticed that I had a lot of pain in my thumb on the throttle side. Not sure if it’s due to arthritis or keeping my hand in the same position for hours on end. In the end I had to use the throttle without using my thumb which wasn’t comfortable either. I put mine down to old age.

Ach, sure, Pain is relative. Most of my relatives are anyway....

Its painful in that long drawn out gets you down kind of way, with the odd random bejeezers that frelling hurts thrown in for fun. Add that in to the other stuff going on, tbh I'm getting a bit 'bored' with it. There's days I 'don't wanna play'. But, no negative waves here baby.

'other stuff' old wounds and injuries, dislocated shoulder left side that I did up in the woods, fell and popped it out, passed out, woke up, put it back in, passed out... Broken toes, bits missing, scar from head injury, arthritis from working wet and staying wet for full 12hr shifts, (and also from working in minus 20 cold storage for 12 hr shifts) mashed left shin (was hit with a sledge hammer, crushed the bone) and many more... Even been electrocuted. Couple of times... Best one threw me backwards about 20 feet. That was after the safety rep said it was safe to cut. He didn't feel very safe after. And to just add a bit of icing, I also get gout. Having an attack of that right now... No, I don't drink, eat rich food or smoke cigars, apparently its hereditary, lucky me.

Did I mention I answer to the name of 'Lucky'?

Update.... Saw the consultant bloke. 4ft tall and three stone wet. Pleasant enough though.

Still in line for the slice and dice, sometime. But seems its now unlikely to do any good, I left it too long. Also tells me I have permanent nerve damage in the upper arms, neck and shoulders, which is seemingly inoperable, especially in and around the neck unless I fancy my odds of not getting paralysed.

In short, put up with it. The hand op may or may not do anything, but 12 weeks of no heavy lifting after whether it works or not.

Gonna do like Moses! Keep takin the tablets!

    (colour me unimpressed though.)

As a second opinion, a@Big Sandy? Not all of those docs are created equal.

My ex is an upper extremity surgeon and completely fecked up my neighbor's elbow which she also broke in a bicycle crash. She was having a heckuva time and not healing correctly. My ex said he would have to do a repair of the first operation, of course at more expense for her and profit for him. I recommended that she get a second opinion and referred her to the orthopedic surgeon that just did my elbow which is healing perfectly so far. BTW. She was extremely pleased and is now back in business and very happy.

I hope that you can get a second opinion and, even if it's the same, al least you'll know. But it may be that there are things that can be done other than "putting up with it". :kissing_heart:

He is giving you informed consent, you can say yes or no with the knowledge that it may not work... however, I’ve seen a lot of these procedures and for less than ten minutes tourniquet time you can have blessed relief from your symptoms... some nerves are flattened and troublesome... but most gain an easing of the worst neuropathic pain. Your hand will be sore where they cut for a while... but don’t write it off until you’ve had it done.

@DCS222 that's confirmed what I was thinking. Discussing it with the Doc I had decided it was worth getting the slice and dice done on the chance it may make a difference, if it does all well and good. If not, we'll nothing ventured nothing gained.

The neck and shoulder problems it probably won't help he reckons, and he's not even prepared to have a go, with the risks involved, and neither for that matter am I. That's something I just get to put up with until the benefits outweigh the risks.

Just got to wait and see, nerve mapping next, and then the op. I'm hoping it will be more summer time, then I won't be hauling bags of coal and firewood around.

A random thought and I am no medic ...... have the quacks checked your B12 level? Some of your symptoms could be pernicious anaemia which was late diagnosed (& easily treated) in my Dad.

Interesting thought... Was okay the last time vampirella took an armful though, about 6 months ago. Regular blood tests for some other issues ongoing. I do take supplements every day, with b12 in them, always have. I know a lot of supplements are a waste of time, and you tend to pee most of it out anyway.

I'm not a vegetarian, but nowadays don't eat a lot of meat usually.. Used to eat loads, but somehow it just doesn't taste right now (we used to eat our own produce, knew how it was reared, but not been involved in that business for years) a lot of 'fresh' meat just tastes 'off' to me nowadays. My tastes have probably changed too.

Well, I had an appointment for the nerve conduction testamabob thingummajig for next Wednesday 25th, that's just been cancelled.

They are going to get back and arrange another appointment... In the next three months. Good ol covid 19.

Still, won't interrupt summer riding now. Silver lining.

Here's a laugh... Yesterday I got a phone call from the consultants secretary, "He would like to see you soon as, we've made an appointment for you for Wednesday next week at 11am"

So I said, "Err, no thanks, I will just wait for the coronavirus thing to blow over I think...."

It was for the nerve conductive tests, so not an emergency or ought, plus it's a 200 mile round trip.

Incidentally, next Wednesday is April first. Told you they were having a laff.

Absolutely. For the nerve testing... Might struggle with the journey after the op though :joy:

Not sure if plod would consider that length of journey an essential, just to have a couple electrodes stuck on me...plus Raigmore has coronavirus sufferers on the wards.

It was only a couple of weeks ago, before the lock down, that they decided it was an unnecessary indulgence going there. I doubt the consultants wages must be down :)

if it is for a health related purpose its a valid reason, just have your letter on you.

There's the rub, the consultants, secretary rang on Friday, no letter!

But yes, valid reason. It just seems silly to me to cancel the appointment before the lock down, and make a new one during! Not going anyway, Mrs BS is in the "vulnerable" group, so I certainly don't want to be mixing.
