I had to pop some prescriptions to the DR's today so I took the bike(ok I took the long way round) everybody seemed to be self isolating by standing 2 mts apart.
Got the Mrs to pick up some essential supplies. IMG_1631.JPG

Well said! I am considered essential evidently because I work at a big retail hardware store. All the customers we have in are a bunch of bored jerks who haven’t had an emergency among them. They just can’t stand to stay home and do the right thing, that’s just too much for them to bear! So the number will finally come up and someone will die because of all these selfish pr*cks.

We have near (ish) neighbours who are both consultant surgeons at Torbay Hospital. My wife had a brief conversation (from across the road!) with the lady surgeon who said that the hospital is just about coping but they - and the health service in general - are expecting a huge surge in numbers of cases in the next two weeks as the peak wave starts to hit.

    Brace, brace, brace.

Good to see that he followed the official advice not to leave home and retreat to the second home in the country. NOT.

What’s more he was already suffering symptoms before he left to fly to Scotland. How irresponsible is that???!

The lockdown over here is getting more and more profound, due to twats not following the rules. See below the document we have to print out and fill in, every time we go outside the house.

This is proper serious shit. On the telly tonight a WHO professor asked for anyone with medical training to show up at there nearest hospital to relieve the load a bit on existing staff.

Not yet that bad here but I feel it might be coming. Still a lot of selfish people ignoring the advice with the police having to break up a gathering of people at a BBQ in one case.

We're quite sheltered here in our little village, volunteers were set up very quickly via the village Facebook page to help the elderley and vulnerable. The village shop is pretty well stocked and no one's behaving like a twat. Silly behaviour in the big supermarkets though but it's still Winchester so no ones a proper nob head yet!

My daughter has had her PhD suspended at the cancer stem cell research institute in Cardiff. From tomorrow she will be testing patients at the hospital for corona virus. Not quite what she was expecting but happy to help.

And this is the latest from my neck of the woods

The Dutch government will decide next Tuesday (March 31) if measures to combat the spread of coronavirus should remain in place after April 6. Prime minister Mark Rutte made the announcement after a short meeting with experts on Wednesday afternoon. The current package of measures, including the closure of cafes, restaurants and schools, is due to expire on April 6 although the ban on organised events runs until June 1. Rutte said that the cabinet would decide whether to extend the April 6 deadline would be taken on the basis of science. Education minister Arie Slob has already hinted the deadline for schools may be extended. Asked about hints that the situation in the Netherlands might be improving, Rutte said: ‘at the moment, we plan on the basis of bad weather.’ Hospitals Health minister Hugo de Jonge told reporters that maximum effort is now being directed at expanding the number of intensive care beds in Dutch hospitals. ‘Thousands of respirators have been ordered but it is unclear when they will arrive,’ De Jonge said. New figures from the Dutch intensive care monitoring service on Wednesday show 644 people are now being treated for coronavirus in IC units, a rise of 18% on Tuesday. Officials expect to need 1,600 IC beds by April 1, 1,100 for coronavirus sufferers and 500 for other patients. Current capacity is for 1,150. Stranded Meanwhile, 15,000 Dutch nationals who are stranded abroad have signed up with a special foreign ministry helpline, requesting help in returning home. Most are in Australia, New Zeeland, Morocco and Indonesia, the ministry said.

Out of interest, anyone else had the virus?
I'm fairly sure I've just had it, didn't have the cough, but had the fever with shivers and sweats, overall aches and pains and just generally feeling shite.
Started on Sunday and finally broke last night, feel much better today, still got 8 days quarantine left though

No, thankfully, but gave myself a damned good scare earlier in the week when my regular, evening temperature check revealed a 38+ result! I was confined to my own solitary quarters for a couple of days but it came down to normal yesterday so it looks like I was just overdoing the manual labour in a warm, sunny garden on Monday!

Pretty nervy prospect at my age and with a previous bout of viral pneumonia on the record, though that was quite a long time ago.

EEEK! You had every right to be surprised, @Wessa. That was a total faux pas on my part and completely unintentional. Especially to disagree with that post.:( Sorry.

Not been on here much the last few days. Wife and I have been getting braced for the worst of this. It has not set in that bad yet, but the authorities say it is coming, maybe a week or more. We have been working on stocking in food for a longer stay than originally thought. Wife did her second raid on the stores tonight. We planned it so she would be there when the crowd was the slowest [evening meal time] and it worked well. We should be good to go now through the bad part. I feel bad she has to be the one to go out, but my health has been poor for some time. I stayed in tonight and worked on a new computer setup. Communication is essential right now. Everyone stay safe, stay home, and stay healthy :) ...J.D.
