Regarding basic face masks, we wear them to stop our respiratory bacteria being transmitted to you rather than to protect us health professionals in normal situations.

As this virus is asymptomatic, health professionals wear them just in case, to try stop the spread if they already have it. If we work with those affected, we have full face systems.

If you don't have it, wearing a paper mask will do diddly squat to protect you. Its like a biker wearing a normal leather jacket rather than a biker designed one thinking it will protect them if they come off.

We simply do not know enough about the virus to make predictions. Viruses can potentially mutate with each new host, sometime making it weaker, sometimes stronger. Some research released last week suggests that a more deadly strain was found in wuhan after the chinese shutdown but because of the lack of new hosts, it is not manifesting itself outside this area.

currently it is adversely affecting those with compromised health but don't assume that things may not change.

Looks nice, but the major problem with that is that actual amount of infected people is about ten time more than the confirmed cases, as no large scale testing is being done. Could be more according to what happened in similar time scale in Italy and other places.
So, by the time the paper confirmed cases reach the point at which he wants to start controlling it, there is so many people infected that half of that green bucket will go in to NHS bottle in one go..now we all know how well prepared the NHS is, not mentioning that many of the front line staff will be infected at this point too from the chilled out public that carries on as normal..
There is no easy solution, but to claim that if you start the harder measures too early people will stop following them is nonsense. Within couple of weeks they will be able to stop watching the news as UK will have the same hell as Italy is having now.
    Watch the panic buying then..
I really hope I'm wrong and this somehow works out, I really do.

Which is what I was saying, it is not really to protect the ones who wear it but to give half a chance to those who may not have it yet in your immediate surroundings.
I would still rather have at least a normal leather jacket than just a t shirt when I do come off..

Without being too cocky (and regretting it), in my early forties and decent healthy active lifestyle (including regular wine cleansing) I'm certainly not worried about myself so much. It's the bunch of ol' stubborn hairy ass bikers I'm worried about. Who am I going to argue with if this gets out of hands..?? :p

Even as hard headed as I am, I decided to lay low. Canceled a
non-essential doctor's appointment today and decided to stay in. Only going out for essential supplies until further notice. ...J.D.

Alcohol does not kill coranvirus as some believe.

Alcohol can worsen the effects of disease, resulting in longer recovery period after trauma, injury or burns. It is also known to impair the anti-viral immune response, especially in the liver.

    Ref:
Maoyin Pang, Shashi Bala, Karen Kodys, Donna Catalano and Gyongyi Szabo. Inhibition of TLR8- and TLR4-induced Type I IFN induction by alcohol is different from its effects on inflammatory cytokine production in monocytes. BMC Immunology, 2011

He is actually wrong, alcohol does kill Coronavirus, it should be over 60% proof... but it will only kill the viruses it makes good contact with... ie hand rubs etc, but drinking it will do nothing to help you! If CV19 is in your oral mucous, it will have infiltrated your deeper respiratory system beyond the epiglottis... and you won’t get alcohol down there, even if you were muppet enough to be drinking 60% proof or over
