Hope this is the right forum for this post?

Just picked a couple of replacement plates up from JDM (1x gel and 1 x printed). The quality of both is spot on and they supply a declaration of legality for the size in case you get pulled (think mine are 164mm x 164mm). After a bit of negotiation [IMG] , they agreed to give a 25% discount to club members - contact them directly for the discount code [IMG]

Apparently it is mate - one of my bikes is an import and JDM have confirmed that size is 100% legal. Think UK bikes are around 10mm bigger but to me, that's still a lot better than the usual 'standard supplied' plates (now getting one for my tiger - I'll measure it up when I get it back)

DVLA say characters must be 64mm tall • characters (except the number 1 or letter I) must be 44mm wide • the character stroke (the thickness of the black print) must be 10mm • the space between characters must be 10mm • the space between the age identifier and the random letters must be 30mm • the margins at the top, bottom and side of the plate must be at least 11mm • vertical space between the age identifier and the random numbers must be 13mm.

Just had a measure up and everything seems to be in line with what you quoted - I did mistake the size of the plate tho - it's actually 174mm wide x 164mm high (six characters) and has a BSAU 145d mark at the bottom. I'll measure up the Tiger plate when I get it next week. Also agree that the police are only bothered about tiny plates - I've always used slightly smaller plates and have never been pulled

It’s the ‘thickness’ that counts! Oh must be ‘black’ 1972 onwards

I got a plate last year from JDM and the stroke on the characters was 'fatter' than the correct bike size by about 1.5mm widthwise and 1mm vertically, they looked really ugly. He'd just scaled the font used for car plates, whereas the legal font for bikes is a different aspect ratio and the stroke is thinner in proportion, it's not just a scaled down car font. Also, the gap top and bottom wasn't symmetrical, with the top gap being a mm under legal size. I complained and got a 50% refund then went elsewhere and bought a very expensive plate from Four Dot, but at least the quality and appearance was excellent, and you can choose different shape plates.

    Hi All,

Firstly, thanks bulldogbobby for sharing our link and products on the forum. If enough people are interested we could generate a 25% discount code for all members of the forum. I'm happy for an admin to contact me and i'll have this arranged on the website and for us to be a trader on the forums :).

Brown mouse, thank you for the feedback but this issue has been resolved now :). I started JDM Plates approximately 18 months ago now and primarily never intended to target motorcycles. We initially targeted imported cars which is where the JDM came from (Japanese Domestic Market) but as more and more motorcyclists got in contact it made sense to offer these too.

The stroke has been significantly reduced so the characters don't look 'fat' anymore. As a relatively newish company at the time of your order, there was always going to be teething problems and I suspect that you may have been one of the first customers of our smaller motorcycle plates?

I am always open to constructive criticism to make our products better so any feedback is greatly appreciated!

    Cheers,
    Carl.

    @JDM Plates hi mate :)
If enough interest is given and the 25% was offered to members :grinning:
How much would it cost for the smallest LEGAL number plate for my bike

    Hi Dilligaf,

The printed plates are generally £29.99. The 4D and Gel plates are £34.99, whereas the 4D Krystal and 4D Fluorescent are £37.99.

    A 25% discount would bring these prices down to £22.49, £26.24 & £28.49 respectively + £1.99 postage .

You will also get a small 4' x 6' certificate of legality to prove the smaller plates are fully legal :D.

    Cheers,
    Carl.
