Hi Grippy and welcome. First service is normally fresh oil and filter. When motorcycles are new, manufacturers often fill the engine with what is referred to as break in oil. After a certain amount of miles-period (much shorter than service intervals) this has to be drained and the filter changed. Other than that it will be a diagnostic check, quick chain clean, lube and adjustment.

It is only then that normal service intervals commence.

    Welcome from sunny California.

You don't have to service the bike at 1 month if it has not reached the miles listed (probably 500 miles). Do the initial service at 500 miles. Oil and filter change as well as chain slack adjustment. The only 2 things really needed. Everything else is just going over the bike to make sure everything is tight and functioning properly. And you can do these things yourself to save $$. It does not have to be done by the dealership. Just keep records of everything you do to the bike.

    Welcome to the forum
When I picked up my new Tiger I booked it in for the 500 mile service at the same time and took it back at the end of the week. I would recommend this if you plan to put the miles on it.

If this is true it is great news I normally do my own servicing. So they don't check valve clearances then?

No valve clearance check at 1st service. Not until 20,000 miles per the owners manual.

Hi Grippy and welcome to the forum  run in service 500miles, then 10k intervals, valves are 20k. The owners manual will come with service details, congrats and looking forward to seeing your new purchase
