    Tired of the shite pics my phone camera takes, because I have had tremors since a child. Looking for a compact camera for travel/scenery photos with a decent image stabilization. Don't want to spend more than $300. Looking at a Panasonic dc-zs50 with 5 axis stabilization. Don't know much about cameras as I was never allowed to waste film by trying to use one. When I did I would get to pay to develop fuzzy pics. Bluetooth compatable. Compact so I can slip in the jacket pocket.

    There’s a general trick for shakes using string. Can be used either on cameras or phone. Tie it round camera and stand on the other end makings sure the string is tight and that works like a solid lean to. It stops shakes if no tripod

    Thanks I had seen this trick on another site, have you tried it? Other issue was seeing the screen in bright light.

    Thanks for the generous offer DD, how old is it? Seems like tech stuff is obsolete as soon as you walk out the door. I think my wife still has one I got her for Christmas years ago. I really feel self conscious whenever I post one of my crappy blurred phone pics. Weather is supposed to be nice this Sunday, and thought I would ride to medicine lodge scenic drive , before it's too warm and the roads are covered with big venomous spiders. Trantulas everywhere last time I was there in the summer. The bite isn't that strong, but I would probably run off the road if I felt one crawling up my trousers.

    If @darkman gives any advice on this thread please ignore :joy::joy: however what he lacks in photography skills he certainly makes up for in mechanical and restoration skills :cool::cool:

    Some years ago I bought a Samsung compact because it had the best viewscreen available. However even that was just about useless in bright sunlight. So I'd say try and get a camera with a decent viewfinder that could be used with glasses if you wear them.

    However I think I need the image stabilization for decent pics, I typically have to take a dozen pics just to get one that isn't too blurry to post. Maybe with image stabilization I can cut it down to 3 or 4 pics of the same subject matter, and maybe wont miss out on a good shot.

    Maybe some other forum member could benefit from it.

    The compact camera market is very sparse these days. Most manufacturers have all but given up on point-and-shoot models as demand has diminished as phone cameras have improved. Current i-Phones take remarkable pictures as far as most people think although their small sensors are optimised for web and online use. If you want to print your pictures then a proper compact camera will be marginally better and a mirrorless or DSLR better still (the latter two are clearly not pocket sized though.

    A search of B&H in the US or Wex in the UK will still provide a reasonable selection. Get something with image stabilisation and if you're still getting motion blur try using shutter speed priority or programme mode with a faster shutter speed. The other settings will sort themselves out.

    New camera arrived today, want to do that rope tripod thingy, anybody know the standard diameter and pitch of the threads of a tripod mount. Will report back on the camera I ended up buying. So far camera is compact with finger sized controls.

    I am fairly certain all modern tripods have the same thread, mine was picked up 2nd hand and I can use a remote to trigger the shutter so no blurring. Mine is a nikon DSLR which I use for work pics. The camera and tripod obviously does not fit in your pocket but will go in a pannier or backpack
