Papa didn’t expect that did he? Good film.
BTW got that book The Man who broke into Auschwitz, not started it yet.
Saw 1917 last week in imax, very clever the way it was filmed.

    Jojo Rabbit.

This evening. I'm going to be thinking about that film for a while - the sign of a very good film in my book.

Needed to see a comedy, and all the old pharts I enjoy on this forum inspired me to watch

    Space cowboys
    Grumpy old men
    Grumpier old men
    World's fastest Indian

    All very funny

Next up secondhand lion, IRC it also had a biker scene

Just seen 1917. I was half expecting a rehash of Saving Private Ryan, but its not, neither is it a typical over the top WW1 film. I found it a very engaging and well produced film, well worth seeing IMO.

I watched that and thought it was OK, up until he was getting shot at in the ruins, nobody could dodge that many bullets, still watchable I suppose.

Thoroughly enjoyed 'Color Out Of Space' which is supposed to be a scifi/horror but is in fact a crazy comedy. Nic Cage farming alpacas i.e. 'the animal of the future' is unforgettable :)

Last week we ran across "Forrest Gump" while channel surfing and watched it again for the first time in years. I forgot what a wonderful , charming, and uplifting film it is. :)

Last night we watched "Terminator: Dark Fate". I really enjoyed it. But not a H-D Fat Boy to be seen in the whole movie. ;)

Mr. Sandi and I just watched "Knives Out" tonight. Excellent!! But then, I love the Mystery / Who Dunnit genre.

I took my good lady to see "Emma" not my cup of tea in the slightest but it had great filming locations and starred the brilliant Bill Nighy.

Recently on a bored evening in when Mrs. P. was out, I clicked on an Amazon Prime programme 'thumbnail' simply because the link picture showed a bristly face on a head wearing a stetson. "Modern western" I think it was billed as so, although I had no high hopes, it had something to attract my interest. First episode in, I was hooked and it wasn't until I'd watched the first 3 episodes in an evening (only a matter of 120 minutes or so total) that I learned that series one of "JUSTIFIED" was made in 2010! I've now just finished season 2 and it's still just as good. One of the great advantages of watching on Prime is that it allows the "recap" and "intro" sequences to be skipped which means that a complete episode is close to 40 minutes with no ads or other distractions.

The 'modern western' tagline is probably a little bit of a misnomer and is, I think, meant to reflect the fact that the central character - Raylan Givens, played by Timothy Olyphant (great name, that!) - is a Deputy US Marshal and, seemingly, a fairly gun happy one who's wildcard approach is characterised by him favouring a real cowboy stetson and boots over more restrained, office wear. The 'modern' element of the description is more accurate in that, to now at least, the storylines and threads running through the first two series deal with drugs production, police corruption and contemporary criminality set in rural Kentucky.

JUSTIFIED is based on a novel (Fire in the Hole) by Elmore Leonard and, given that his work has provided the foundations for movies such as Jackie Brown; Get Shorty; 3.10 to Yuma and many others, it naturally follows a 'crime noir' theme. The transcription to a tv series hasn't lost any of the - often totally unrealistic - violent action that Elmore-based movies commonly employ, but in the modern setting and the small screen presentation these do seem over-exaggerated.

So far, at least, it seems to be a very well made and acted series and, with another four 'seasons' to go, it looks like I'll have plenty of scope for filling any more bored evenings in!

You landed on one of Mr. Sandi‘s and my absolutely favorite TV series, &Adie P. We love that show. And it just keeps getting better. Excellent characters and fortunately it’s seven seasons!

Seven seasons? Wow - good news, indeed. I'm glad you two like it.

The 'mod-western' theme is really well executed (for me) - right down to things like the "TOMBSTONE" movie poster (also a great movie - and Billy Bob's in it!) on the office wall! I do think the mass shootouts and random killings (in seasons 1 & 2, at least) seem somewhat implausibly extreme but I really like the way they interweave character cameos and stories with the overall and ongoing thread of the Givens/Crowder stories.

Plenty for me to binge watch while Mrs. P is away for a skiing holiday in March! :)

    Thanks Sandi.

p.s. it does speak volumes about the American policing system that you can see members of 3 or more law enforcement services in any one scene at any given time .... Sherrif, City, State, and Marshals. Confused? :D

Glad you're enjoying "Justified", @Adie P. It just gets better and better. Mr. Sandi and I were quite sad when the series ended. I know that the Boyd Crowder character is already in full swing. (FIRE IN THE HOLE!) Interestingly, the Boyd Crowder character was only slated to be in the first episode but Boyd went over so well that he became a staple and very key character in the series.

Have you gotten to the point in the series yet where Dewey Crowe has shown up. Holy moly! He's a piece of work.:p Or how about Mags Bennet?! I have to say I envy you, Adie, that you've got the whole lovely seven seasons ahead of you. Enjoy! Mr. Sandi and I may well watch the whole thing again at some point but it's never the same when you know what's coming down the pike.
