Ohlin's Front End Speed Twin

I have K-Tech front and rear on my bike, the difference in front end feel is profound

 

Best money you can spend on a bike is on the suspension, especially versus engine mods, be fast everywhere, not just down the straights .

Looks like the forks are used, what are they off of? are you getting them serviced before they go in? Just makes sense to do it ahead of fitting them IMHO.

 

Well looks like you know your onions! (Ohlins ) , did you design those yokes? All well beyond what I could do, I am just a ham-fisted garage mechanic with zero engineering skills!

Good luck with the radial callipers, I imagine they are as rare as rocking horse poo second hand & likely to cost a bit too.

Could I bother you with a question concerning the original front fork internals on your Speed Twin?
When you removed the forks and internals, is there a cartridge in both fork legs or only one?
When I search the Speed Twin specific bike parts (worldoftriumph.com) there seems to be cartridges in both fork legs.
However TEC bike parts (youtube Video) indicates there is only one, and Ive had some information from A&JCycles that they fitted a Ohlins FKS218 kit into a earlier model Speed Twin (Year ?) "just fine" but later models the kit doesn't fit without a dedicated spacer which has to be made.
This seems to indicate some change in front fork internals as time as gone on.

I Think all new model speed twins have one cartridge only fitted as standard

From the parts list it looks like there are two cartridges fitted.
One in each leg.

Yesterday my local Triumph dealer said the same after looking on their parts system.

I might get a bit of flak here? but sorry guys I keep reading all these posts about fitting new shocks to improve the handling and to get it to turn quicker etc etc and find it all bit perplexing!!! fair enough they are pretty basic shocks as standard but they do all that is needed on the Speed Twin, I've had to readjust my riding style to try and stop grounding the bike because I have caused damage to my brake and gear levers etc by doing so (and I am certainly no Barry Sheene by the way), if the bike didn't handle as it comes though then this surely wouldn't be happening??? I can however see the point in changing them from a cosmetic/aesthetic point of view as some of the replacements do look better, and/or changing to adjust the ride height if your a bit on the shorter side, but most of the posts I read are more to do with handling issues which I personally have never encountered and so just don't understand??? I've done over 4000 happy miles on this bike in the 10 months I have owned it and never ever felt the need to even consider this.

 

To be fair Lessaint I did kind of get that that from your original post and I do get what your doing in improving the looks my little rant is maybe more on the fact that there seems to be so many threads regarding the suspension on the Speed Twin where it gets slagged off, in my humble opinion, unnecessarily!!! Good luck with your redesigning though, I am sure it will look fantastic when completed!!!

 

I'm just customising mine as it gives me something to focus on after the passing of my wife. I've also never mentioned any issues of handling on the bike.
