I can't have you upstaging me on my own thread - I'll be back with a photo as soon I've got the RS into the bathroom for a thorough clean
Although the 2018+ Speed is listed as ‘Coming soon...’ on Triumph’s website. https://www.triumphmotorcycles.co.u...VeHNGWUVwMUFMdHNTemQzNUlpdm1obzBOaTlXOWdMdiJ9
Hopefully they do release it. Maybe my dealer was referring to the first release and the speed will get it later
I can't believe I bought mine back on page 18 of this thread. I spent an inordinate amount of time at that Oberon stand, trying to decide between black/silver or silver/black - and now you've made me wonder whether I made the right choice Yours looks great, but I like mine too, oh hang on, no I like yours. Definitely mine. Maybe In other news, I finally tired of the auto-arming Datatool that would trigger itself in petrol stations (and elsewhere) requiring the fob to fished out of my pocket if I forgot the old switch-ignition-off-then-on-again trick. I bought a blanking plug (or whatever it's called) for under £5 from Triumph and finally bypassed the alarm. It's still fitted under the seat in case I decide to reinstate it, but for now, key goes in pocket and stays there. Now it's proper keyless
I’m sure I’ve posted this before, but watch out for the o-ring seated in the base of the cap. Its only function is to help the cap feel slick and smooth as it tightens...but petrol causes it to dry out, expand and fall out. When it does fall out, smear silicon grease into the seating groove before replacing it - that will help it stick in place.
l’ve added the Oberon cap to my shopping list as the key is really hard to turn on the cap of my 2016 Speedy. Which colour to go for.....????. Is it a hassle-free fit? Thanks, guys, for the recommendations and posting the pics.
Thanks, Trippy. I imagined it would be a doddle to do, but you never know! My bike is white with bits of red and I’m leaning towards the colours you have, but not 100% sure.....I’ll sleep on it. Oh, I suppose a red cap could work.......why all these decision
It takes about three hours to decide on the colour combo, but only minutes to fit. Three bolts...job done!
Does anyone do a keyless fuel cap, which flips up (stays attached to the bike)? My dickhead mates would definitely run off with the cap if its not firmly attached.
I've spent the last week reading this entire thread, and I really want to thank everyone for all the great information! And thank you MrTriple for starting this thread! I've been eyeing that AR exhaust for some time, but I think I'll stick with modifying the Arrows for now. I contacted Hilltop about remote dealers in the US, and they don't have anything set up at the time unfortunately. I was considering sending the ECU through post, but UPS quoted me $150 for one way If Hilltop ends up securing a remote dealer out here, I'll make sure to update the thread about it! Thanks again!
Well I've been quiet for a while, so it's time for an update. My Speed will be 2 years old at the end of the month and mileage is only 3,100. She didn't get much use last year, due to my Scrambler 1200 XE debacle - I had two of them in succession over the summer, both displaying excessive engine noise/vibration, and both rejected (after independent assessment) and fully refunded. If ever you wonder whether the 7.9% APR on Triumph finance is worth it, think of it as an insurance policy, because Black Horse were amazing in helping me through the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Meanwhile, I've booked my service to fall before the Speed's warranty runs out, so she gets a final checkover. I've not bought any presents for her in ages - and these original Triumph mirrors on eBay caught my eye today. A 10% eBay voucher flashed up too, so the total cost was £98.98 for the pair, which seems very reasonable. Of course I will post pictures once they're on.
Mirrors arrived - and I'm very pleased with them at under £50 per side. @Trippy Tripple - I got the idea from this post on your ridearoundlondontown feed. I see you're a 'sticking out' kind of guy, where I prefer mine 'sticking in'. The weather is looking good for the next 5 days, so I plan to get out and self-isolate...and hopefully I'll be able to see what's behind me too
Parked my RS up today and when I came back there was a glitch when trying to start it. It sounded like it was trying to unlock the steering lock, but couldn’t manage it. A bit of faffing turning on and off again (15 mins) and it eventually came on and allowed me to start. Any ideas?
I'm not sure about this John. Sometimes mine goes a bit 'lazy' and takes an extra 30 seconds for the screen to switch on. Time to replace the battery in your key fob maybe? Yesterday, mine wouldn't start after filling up with petrol, but it turned out that I was in second gear with the kickstand down. I had become distracted when I took my glove off to use the petrol pump. I imagined contracting the Miley from the pump nozzle, couldn't locate my bottle of sanitiser, and wondered whether the Miley could survive inside my glove for onward transmission when I got home.
