You showed more restraint then I would. I don't care who he was bad manners are not acceptable from anybody and I would have told him so.

It’s the short length of road leading on and off a major road (motorway or sometimes A road in the Uk) from/onto a more minor road.

The bit on the left for example

Thanks. One of those language issues. Here we would say "onramp" or "offramp". ...J.D.

OK kind of related to the previous one. Waiting to pull onto a dual carriageway, inside lane is empty so you start your move and someone from the outside lane moves into it. Fukwits

Here in California we have a rule that large trucks are regulated to the two lanes nearest the shoulder [unless specially marker otherwise]. You always get one of these dimwits trying to keep up in the fast lane [I guess trying to beat his pal to the next truck stop]. Just jams things up for everybody. …J.D.

The Tebbit incident reminded me of a lunch break in the early 1980s. I was in a north Nottinghamshire town repairing the computer in a bank branch. It was a longish job, so I went out for a sarnie.

I saw this woman, with three men walking towards me. I knew the woman well, though I couldn't immediately place her. Well dressed and (I hate to say this in hindsight), not unattractive - a bit older than me, but...

Not wanting to blank someone I knew, I gave a little wave, said hello and asked how she was. She smiled, and with sparkling eyes, replied to me. I was going to stop for a chat, but the men seemed to close in towards her a little and they brushed on by. It seemed very odd that she didn't appear to recognise me.

I walked on, wondering, and then the penny dropped! I'd just tried to fraternise with the enemy. It was Edwina Currie!

Honestly, in the flesh (if you'll pardon the expression) she had an attractive sparkle that didn't come across on the telly.

In my part of the US there are places where the onramps [slip roads] have metering lights that change from red to green to slow the amount of traffic being allow to get on the freeways. I hated the idea when they first came out, but I sooon learned they work pretty well. The are computer controlled. They only go on during high volume traffic and count the cars. The computer controls how fast it allows more traffic to enter and keeps.things flowing better. Some of these freeways are 4-8 lanes in each direction and we still have traffic congestion at peak hours ! …J.D.

No I couldn't either, apart from meeting her in the street that once. I think it's why I didn't recognise her.

Ok, so I have to get this off my chest, why is it that a small minority of drivers think it's so f#cking clever to hang back in a traffic queue, whether it be in jams or approaching lights, they sit there while the vehicles in front of them pull away, sometimes letting a massive gap appear before, in their own sweet time, they decide to creep forward, I'm sorry but this really does grind my gears, do they not consider the knock on effect it has behind them, or maybe they just don't give a sh#t :D , ok, that feels better, where's nursery :confounded:

I agree with you Wessa that some are, as you say on their phones or half asleep but there's also the arrogant tw#ts who do it because they think they're being clever :confounded:

So what are you going to do about it? So many people do it now. So tempted to start a campaign to ban this annoying trend. So it won't have this negative affect on those of us who can't stand the irritating habit. So annoyed!

    Oops!

    Runs away...
