I haven't been around much on the forum lately, thanks to those of you who sent PM's checking up if I am OK. :)
Things are not going well on the work front, I may be made redundant & to be honest I have been a bit down in the dumps. I am not one to bring others down with my tales of woe, so have stayed off the forum, but didn't realise that this would cause concern to some members. :worried:

As a result of the work situation all prep on the BBR race bike has stopped as I don't want to throw money at a race bike that I possibly won't be able to race anyway.

Anyway, that's the situation, don't want sympathy as shit happens and if the worst happens I'll deal with it, just thought I let you guys know why I haven't been on much. ;)

Not good, been there too many times. Redundant 5 times in 5 years, after the last one, I packed in industry and went into education.
Hope things work out for you.

Yes if you are prepared to work there's a company out there waiting for you. Like others on here I gave up engineering as this country just don't have any. Just a throw away attitude now. I went straight into Security then one year later to GSK who have now tupied me back to Security . You are a worker and you will always come out tops. Here's one for you my boy packed one of his bikes a headed of to Spain last Thursday to track. Got there and the bike wouldn't start. Swear I didn't touch it. So he has had a whole weekend sitting in the sun looking at it as he took no spares either. Maybe his racing days will be over.
    Regards
    Joe.

Tell us what your skill sets are. I was a well respected consulting engineer in an office with extremely knowledgeable people, we just couldn't compete any longer with the low bid cheap dumb newbie's. This created a huge vacuum on the contracting side of the fence interpreting their garbage into a working solution, that our confused our competitors so much they just double or tripled their cost estimates based on unknowns, and lack of knowledge. They shrunk due to lack of work, we grew 3X in 7 years. Everyone now wants the old pharts opinion. Make yourself available to former advisaries and and kick your old company's arse. You the man.

Well Phred, I have run my own transport & warehousing consultancy company in the past, I only packed it in back in 2004 because I had 3 companies go bust on me in a year & I didn't get paid.
I have been employed since Jan 2005 in the container transport industry working for 3 different companies in that time. This slow down in work is across the board, nothing we have done, just a lack of volume due to consumer spending slow down, my team are multiple award winners for excellence within our industry, unfortunately it seems to count for nothing if the next company offer discounts because they have no work, the work goes to the lowest bidder, in my book there is little point in being a busy fool, either you make profit or you die. We survived the last recession by scaling back & trimming, that's the plan again, if I am the chosen one from the two senior managers up for redundancy, I will basically be responsible for two divisions of the company, so twice the work!

Like most on here I'll be keeping my fingers crossed and will, perhaps, make some live animal sacrifices (wild ones, of course) to whatever Gods are guarding your future.

You clearly have a lot of skills - and very transferable skills at that - so I think you have every chance of good fortune "going forward" .... to use an awful and very hackneyed pseudo-aphorism! There is always going to be a need for material logistics and transportation so, hopefully, some of that need will drive your future!

Good luck BB - and keep on running.

Thanks Adie, as I said at the beginning, 'shit happens', I had been very down in the dumps initially but now just have that 'what will be, will be' attitude.
I am sure if the worse happens I will not be out of work long, I am just annoyed at the lack of loyalty from customers that take the short term financial gain created by the current market situation over long established & reliable service, fickle to say the least!
