Greetings - I’m hoping to buy an airbag vest at an upcoming expo. I’m interested in any thoughts on what to buy or to avoid. Also, sizing - if I get a vest big enough to go over my winter gear will it work over my thinner stuff? Thanks
Ello I got mine from Helite, very good and easy to use. Putting it on is just part of the routine as is clipping it to and off the bike using the lanyard They aren't cheap but cost less than a broken rib, collar or spine!
If you are lucky, you may be able to get an ex rental one at a lower price www.lovelifeandride.com Regarding sizing, it is measured from neck to bottom of your spine, the width is managed by straps and clips
There's been some recent discussions in a similar thread https://www.thetriumphforum.com/thr...s-now-with-10-for-forum-members-trifor.13432/ I bought a vest at the weekend and have been happily using it this week. Can't fault mine....am very happy with my HeLite Turtle 2. There's lots of adjustment in the vest so I'm sure you'd find a decent fit for your thick jacket and also thinner one. There's details in the thread link, but if you can get to try one on its useful (but not essential). Good luck!
Used the Helite vest for the first time today. I'm very impressed with the quality of the construction and materials used. This is nothing like a normal yellow safety vest in terms of construction or quality. I didn't realise I was wearing it, even though it also uses an approved back protector, as well as the hidden deflated airbag. Only two very minor downsides, one is the cost, but heh it's cheaper than the Scuberth helmet I lust over. I'd consider it as cheap as chips if I had to ever use it.The second thing being bright yellow it'll show the dirt quickly so I'll have to keep on top of cleaning it. Over all very pleased and so far will heartily recommend it, along with the service I had from Nick at Love Life and Ride. (And yes I did get a discount) Oldfart
Really glad it's all good. I agree with you on the cost...8f o think about it I find it hard to establish what it is that creates that price, but, also agree that it is a small price to pay if it does what it is supposed to when needed - which I have every faith it will. Enjoy your new vest - I hope you never have to use it!
Update, I bought a gen 1 Helite vest a few weeks back and rode with it for the first time today. It’s barely noticeable and I’m convinced that it’s a smart buy. I’ll be surprised if we don’t see them nearly as widespread as helmets soon.
Helite have just emailed me a link to a £50 discount off one of their airbag vests. If you're thinking of buying a vest email me and I'll send you the link. Oldfart
A couple of others to consider: neither use lanyards for triggering, and both are intended to be worn underneath a jacket: https://www.klim.com/Ai-1-Airbag-Vest-3046-000 https://www.alpinestars.com/tech-air-street-airbag-system Let us know what you select, and how you like it.
