It's the weapons that they keep secret that worry me.

This is a defensive weapon, bad news is all of those bullets land somewhere at a lethal velocity. So where it can be deployed is limited. High tech Gattling gun with barrel clusters spinning at 6000+ rpm to keep from overheating during their short bursts.

Didn’t our boys have something similar to that in the Falklands War, seem to remember them having a gun that would fire a hail of lead towards oncoming missiles? That mother in the vid takes it to a whole new level though.

Only HMS Invincible had the Goalkeeper fitted at the time as technology was relatively new.

I've just been reading about the remarkable Rev. Bob Evans, an Australian who, until he was overtaken by technology, was the most successful finder of supernova (an exploding star). He does this by searching 1500 star galaxies that he's committed to memory until he spots a new speck of light in one of them. He uses a portable telescope that he lugs into the Blue Mountains.

The description of what an incredible feat this is in Bill Bryson’s A Short History of Almost Everything, in which he devotes a chapter to Evans and his legendary skill.

“Imagine a dining-room table covered in black tablecloth and someone throwing a handful of salt across it. The scattered grains can be thought of as a galaxy. Now imagine 1500 more tables like the first one … each with a random array of salt across it. Now add one grain of salt to any table and let Bob Evans walk among them. At a glance he will spot it. That grain of salt is the supernova.”

    My mind is boggled!

I'm always amazed by those photographs ..... but I'm equally - if not more - amazed by the notion of seeing a couple of guys 'erecting' the scaffolding that is holding up what looks like a very precarious and flimsy walkway in the sky!

I also wonder how many of the workers lost their lives during construction?

"Brilliant" No changing your mind when you commit to that road, some of these guys must have been goats in a previous life.

Um, NO. Yeah, I just said in the "Why Do You Ride?" thread that I love the adventure of riding a motorcycle. But this is a "little" too much adventure for me!!:eek::eek::scream::scream::scream: Great video--I'll ride this route vicariously, thank you very much. ;)
