Squeaky Front Brakes On My Speed Twin As Anyone Else

Not me, but then I’ve only done about 300 miles on it.

 

Yes. My dealer fitted a new wheel, discs and pads to cure it. 5,000+ miles and all is well.

 

Triumph told me that cleaning the pads with brake cleaner stops it.

 

My bike does and Su' doesn't

 

My dealer did that first and it didn't work.

 

Squeaking is typically caused by vibration of the pads as the rotor spins past the pads, since some suffer and some dont it maybe an accumulation of manufacturing tolerances, or a free floating rotor button seized. Try inserting something tapered firmly into the buttons and see if you can twist the buttons, or move them side to side.

 

The speed twin discs have bobbins which force the inner and outer rotor to align against the underside of the bobbin heads. Any debris that finds its way under there creates run-out where previously there may have been none and could be a cause or these problems.
Pushing and rotating the bobbins from behind whilst spray cleaning from the front them may prove to be the most fruitful method in the long run to keep things running optimally, but it certainly won't cure problems caused by a badly machined (disc) mounting surface.

Update: Been to my local dealer this morning to collect my Speed Twin after brake light switch failure. He tells me that Triumph are developing a different pad compound to cure the squeal. Hopefully this will be a recall for all of us, rather than just fitting to bikes on the production line......

 

And so triumph should. I cannot believe it has taken so long for them to admit that the brakes are a problem. I hope all owners get the fix under warranty sooner rather than later.
