Hi, I'm getting back into biking and looking to buy either a Tiger XRX or an Explorer. I've got test rides fixed up so will soon get to the haggling stage.

My question to forum members is what discount or accessories did you manage to negotiate when buying your Triumph? Is one dealer better than another? I'm based in the West Midlands so have several dealers within 30 miles or so. But if the deal is better further afield then so be it.

When I was thinking recently about getting a new Tiger 800 XCX, the deal I was offered was 1500€ worth of extras for free. Aluminium Panniers, top case, tank bag and a few other bits.

Thanks guys. I was aware of the TEX free panniers etc offer.

Free extras is always a good bet as it cost the dealer a lot less than giving away cash.

Just for your general interest, when I bought my KTM 1190 Adventure recently I saved approx 7,000 euros by buying 2nd hand with 5,000 mls on the clock.

Hi and welcome in, it is almost the season for buyers of second hand bikes, where the cold and the wet put people off and there is suddenly an influx of low mileage bikes available on the second hand market! These can come at a very tempting price with many mouthwatering extras on so work out what you want and see what you can get it for.

I have a Tiger Explorer XC she came with heated seats, top box and panniers, heated grips, fogs etc. The two dealers in the area offered different accessories - beware dealers offering 'gifts' hi and welcome

Hi, I saw a car buyer on tv say, phone the dealer mention specific bike you like, mention other dealers with that bike. they say over the phone makes them work harder to land you.
Also time of week, month, year, for salesmen hitting targets seems important .
me, I cant go new, so good luck.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I tested the Tiger XRX and the TEX today back to back. The TEX wins hands down. I was a bit dissapointed in the XRX, it seemed to require more gear changing than I would have expected from a bike with that amount of torque. Confort wise it lost out for both rider and pillion. So it look like the TEX for me.

Deal wise, Triumph are offering free panniers, heated rider seat and grips until the end of this month. On top of that the dealer also offered a discount of £1,000 without any prompting from myself. He also offered to fit any addition accessories FOC. Sound like a good deal but I will call other dealers to see what they can offer.

The Explorer is a great bike - comfortable, supprisingly quick on the uptake and with the toys - most conditions catered for. Really shocked how manoeuvrable at low speed even with pillion - all the best mate.

Odd as you say but the additional weight seemed to settle it better at low speed.

Well the deed is done. I placed my order for a new Triumph Explorer today.

I have gone for the Graphite colour and the following accessories:

    Panniers - FOC
    Heated Rider Seat -FOC
    Heated Grips - FOC
    Comfort Passenger Seat
    High Touring Screen
    U Lock Kit
    Engine Bars
    Alarm Kit
    GPS Mounting Kit
    Fog Light Kit
    Hand Guards
    Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
    Rubber Tank Pad

The final price including fitting was £12,724. I'm happy with that as it doesn't pay to push too hard as you may compromise future after sakes service. Though they also offered 20% off the Triumph clothing range.

I'm sorting out a Givi top box from Moto24 and a Garmin SatNav from Amazon. The dealer will fit the SatNav and I will fit the Top Box.

I was surprised how inexpensive insurance was, especially as I have not ridden for a while and don't have any current NCB for a bike. £256 from Hastings sounds quite good to me. Not the very cheapest I could have got but seems the most comprehensive as it includes a low (ish) excess of £350 and includes Bike clothing cover and legal cover.

It's due to be collected on the 30th so I put up a pic when it I get it home.

    Excited.

Ha ha. Not Austraila but I have the urge to ride to Moscow. Possibly in 2017, I need a few smaller tours first to work up to it as it's a 4,000 mile round trip. Brugge, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, St Petersburg, Moscow, Riga, Vilnius, Warsaw, Berlin, Rotterdam, Harwich, Home.

I feel you, I REALLY want to see the Mask Of Grief in person......just a shame it's in Magadan, so about as far East as you can get in Russia........I'm sure it would be great fun (and as Half Ton says, pretty lethal) trying to get there! Just need time........

    ....oh and money! :0)

I contacted Wolverhapton, Stratford and Bristol. But they did not want to play the game on price. So I was left with Brum.

I might add that if you are booking a test ride I would not advise Brum as its in the most God awful location. I only had time for 1 hour on each bike and most of the time was in heaven traffic.
