    hi everyone,

Passed my Direct access test this morning so now road ready. Last night I bought a 900 Trophy 3 from flea bay. K plate with 28k on the clock.
It's getting transported up to me in the next day or so and looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.

I've been told by my instructor who had the 1200 version a while back that they (his 1200 anyway) was a heavy bike. How does the 900 compare to that?

I've also been told the sprag clutch can be an issue on these. As far as I know the bike I'm getting doesn't have a problem. Is the mileage a factor in the sprag issue?

Anything I should consider other than a hiding the sharp knives as the wife doesn't know I've bought a bike yet!!!

Hi, you should have a good un there if it has been looked after. trophies and Sprints well all the T3 900s and 1200s are solid and over engineered. They are very heavy, not a lot in it between the 9s and 12s, my sprint is very top heavy and tends to drop in slow corners but you DO get used to it.
The sprag issue is well known, as stated by others you need to ensure your battery is tip top, how do i know........ well you guess???? yes mine cost me an arm and a leg coz its a 95. Good news is yours should, as an early one, have a rectangular plate above the crankcase below the carbs which facilitates access to the sprag. On the later bikes you have to split the engine as I had to have done. Cost me an arm and a leg coz i aint a mechanic. Full engine out and break in half,(apparently that is the easy bit).
trophies looked after will be sought after bikes one day, maybe quite soon as there aint many good ones about now.
Enjoy it and ride safe. Good luck and welcome

Welcome in fatty, from the sounds of it you've potentially got a good one. Take the hint and make sure you give the battery a good charge before you start her up, tempting I'm sure but better safe than blahdy blah!

Hi FBXL and welcome to the Triumph playground. If you're in any doubt, replace the battery for a good'un.

    Hi and welcome in.
I have a 900 Trident so agree with all of the above - keep that battery charged up! Make sure your light switch is off and pull the clutch in to ease starting.

image.jpg image.jpg Thanks all, bike arrived today. Paperwork shows a motabatt fitted in dec 2013 and lifting the seat shows it's still there. I'm sure I'll be on here asking "what's this?" "How do I do this?" So please bear with.

There is a noise similar to a clutch release bearing noise when the bike idles in neutral and goes when clutch is depressed.

Not road tested it yet (insurance from tomorrow) but manoeuvring in the drive appears to show a ticking when riding in first gear???

    More to follow I'm sure.

She's been told. Took it surprisingly well!!! We have had a few rather large life events recently so I suppose it's a drop in the ocean. I may find a noose around my neck when I wake tomorrow though.

Anyway, I was out on the bike for a quickly tonight. It's very heavy isn't it.
The back brake needs seeing to as it doesn't work ( but passed an MOT???)

Tyres need checked for pressures as a bit wobbly but that may just be me or a binding back brake maybe.

Also noticed this under the seat. any idea? image.jpg
