Had the 18000 mile service done yesterday. Advisory on the rear tyre but I think I can just about finish the year on this one and get a new one for next year. Managed not buy any extra's while I spent 2 hours at the dealers.
I recognise that mistake very strongly - first time I bought a LandRover Discovery. Turned out to be a great car but more by luck than judgement. Last time I bought a S-type Jag - lovely tool it was and made me a few quid as well. My downfall drink is 'Blue can' beer - lovely when chilled and 7.8% - for 50p !!
Sounds like the Rum was talking for your bike. Lol Rum or no rum where would we be without ebay ah. Spent a fortune on their doing up my Thunderbird on there but still cheaper the main agent.
Yesterday evening at around 1730 hrs my wife and I were not on our Storm, but in a car on our way to a Wedding in Watford. We were travelling on the A4146 around Leighton Buzzard towards the Grovebury Road roundabout when a motorbike (Speed or Street Triple) overtook our white fiesta, before having to slam on the brakes and skidding into the junction, stopping just before hitting the roundabout itself. My wife stopped to check the rider was ok. We're not sure if the rider misunderstood this but she appeared to give my wife the 'w*nker' hand gesture. We're not sure why as we had done nothing wrong (as far as we're aware) and weren't trying to be critical. To that rider (if you read this forum), we just wanted to say, we hope you're ok. I've had close scrapes on bikes too and would no doubt be shaken up if it'd happened to me.
Maybe she was doing a mental self assessment of her riding skills and that was the best score she could give herself!
Just serviced my rear caliper on my Speed Triple at the weekend, it was sticking a bit so wanted to get that sorted. I ordered the replacement seals and pistons from Wemoto and very glad I had them too, both pistons were badly corroded and in one pot the water/dust seal had folded on itself causing the piston to seize, on the other pot, the water/dust seal was non-existant! Seems the previous owner or garage that did the brake service did a bit of a bodge job, unless these seals can just pop out, but that seems impossible to me! I gave the whole caliper a good clean, plus a dose of copper slip where needed and reassembled it. Apart from a small air pocket in the line somewhere it wasn't a bad mornings work. Will bleed the line again this evening. Also this weekend, as it has been 5k since the 12k service in March, I will give the beast an oil change, she deserves it. The cat has been removed and she has a nice set of Arrow cans on her, the only thing is the popping when changing down gears, so I need to disable the SAI. Does anyone know if this can be done in the ECU only by turning it off (using EasyECU) , or do the ports have to be taken blocked as well...plus the rest of the pipe work removed?
I believe you will have to put a blanking plug in the airbox outlet and you could "pinch" the sensors shut, but it would be tidier to replace them with bolts. if you leave the pump wires connected you don't have to tell the ecu they are gone as the pump is still working, just blowing air into air. It is up to you how you tidy up the pipes etc that aren't being used. Although for a twin this will give you a general idea.
If you believe the AI system is causing the popping then it needs removing completely. As Crispey said you need to remove the plumbing and blocks the holes in the head left by the removal of the AI injectors. Not done work on your bike but on the Bonny there is a chrome injector for each cylinder which needs to be removed and blocked off. There is no pump in the system at all, the only electrical component is a solenoid which opens and closes as dictated by the ECU. With TuneECU you can tell the ECU that the bike does not have the AI system, so no fault codes are triggered.

I like this thread! I spent a few hours this weekend trying to get to the chain of my Bonnie. I'm a computer scientist, not a mechanic, and don't have a garage - all this was done in a (closed) car park. After a long fight, I did get the right exhaust out, only to realise that I don't have a 24mm socket (all my previous bikes had 22mm rear axe nuts). Managed to put it all back together (was really proud of that, no pieces left). End result: a badly treated nut, and a small leak at the exhaust connection with the pipes. Hey, at least I managed to adjust the rear shocks, I find position 4 gives me a much better ride (tend to duo a lot). More to the point, and seeing all references to late night ebay orders, Amazon must be happy with me: * Hayes Bonneville Service and repair manual; * VAG-COM cable; * Silverline 24mm socket; * Wera 8mm, 12mm and 19mm spanners; * Granville GV0374 Silicone Sealant, 40g, clear; * Autosol 0400 75ml Metal Polish; * Febi 26708 Thread Lock blue 50ml. All on the way. There's still hope to make a mechanic out of me.
It be wet, very wet. After my hour ride into London this morning I come to realise that my waterproof trousers...are not waterproof, my 20 year old Sidi boots are not longer economically viable and require replacing and that T.M.Lewin charge £6 for their cheapest single pair of socks!!! The pinlock anti fog visor system is a must and Rain-X is excellent!!! Onto Amazon and one JDC all in one wet suit is on its way. New gloves and boots will be purchased this weekend. Any particular recommendations regarding waterproof gloves and boots? I don't want the racing boots with all the plastic, so would like leather with waterproof qualities and comfort. Having seen the thread on boots already I can discount the Altberg boots as they would take many weeks to arrive, although I don't doubt their excellent quality. I am thinking Daytona Strive or Alpinestar SMX6... Glad to see all the regular bikers in the car park this morning and not taking other transport because of a bit of rain. Anyhows, ride dry n safe guys n gals.
