I'll just come out and say it - I bought a Royal Enfield.

As some of you know, the Bonneville was written off in June and it will be replaced next year with a newer model - no question. However, I have got used to having two bikes and so, in the meantime, I decided to go "off piste" slightly.

It's an 05 Electra X which has had the full Hitchcocks conversion to replicate a 1950's Trial bike - different tank, lights, bars, mudgaurds, single seat, exhaust etc. Electric start has been removed so has to be kicked over. Big grin factor but a different (but stangely enjoyable) pace of life to the Trident.

Also needed a bike for the Distinguished Gentlemans Ride in September and not totally sure that the Trident would qualify.

How's that for a "saucy pipe" Dave?

I think in all fairness we all should have a ride on one and experience a unique sensation!!

Unique and sensation are the words - occasional false neutrals when changing up - neutral disappearing when you need it - carburetor falling off whilst trying to start it - Pilot jet falling into the float bowl. All repaired at the road side with the carried tool kit and (in the latter case) help from a friendly Tiger owner in the next village.

To be fair there has been a lot of tightening up done since then, along with the liberal use of Loctite and replacement nylon lock nuts!

What a great looking machine Steve, and all that fun at the roadside. I've ridden a pal's RE and enjoyed it.

Aaah! What's the point in only replicating the look of old when you can buy the whole package. Your nostalgia cup must be overflowing as you walk back down the road to pick up the odd nut or bolt. These youngsters just don't know how easy they have it!!

No - just the throttle cable and fuel inlet pipe - just a case of keeping an eye on it now, but good suggestion.

Thats why they are known as a collectors bike - you walk behind and collect all the bits that have fallen off!

Just been told my pal is selling his 2010 500cc Bullet Electra EFI, Black and chrome, windscreen etc, I'll put a proper ad in right place when I get a min. He cannot ride solos any more, so will sell or exchange for a sidecar outfit. Anybody actually know what it's worth before I start looking? 2010 ONLY 2079 miles !!! MOT til 14th October 2015.
